Naokong GB-19 The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion
records how Hua Tuo, the famous 2nd century physician,
Naohu DU-17
treated General Wei Tai-cu (the posthumously conse-
crated emperor of the Wei dynasty) for ‘head wind,
confused mind and visual dizziness’. After needling
Naokong GB-19, the General was cured. This story, how-
ever, also appears in an earlier source in which the point
needled is Yongquan KID-1.
COMBINATIONS
• Pain and heaviness of the head: Naokong GB-19,
1.5 cun
LOCATION NOTE
i. Locate Naohu DU-17 1.5 cun directly above Fengfu
DU-16, in the depression directly superior to the external
occipital protuberance; ii. Alternatively (if the external
occipital protuberance is indistinct) locate Naokong
GB-19 one quarter of the distance between Fengchi
GB-20 and Chengling GB-18.
