EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Banking in its modern sense evolved in the 14th century in the prosperous cities of Renaissance

Italy but in many ways was a continuation of ideas and concepts of credit and lending that had

their roots in the ancient world. In the history of banking, a number of banking dynasties –

notably, the Medicis, the Fuggers, the Welsers, the Berenbergs, and the Rothschilds – have

played a central role over many centuries.

Eventually the importance of this project is mainly to understand the credit appraisal techniques used

by the banks with special reference to Bank of India.Whenever an individual or a company uses a credit

that means they are borrowing money that they promise to repay with in a pre-decided period. In order

to assess the repaying capability i.e. to evaluate their credit worthiness banks use various techniques

that differ with the different types of credit facilities provided by the bank.

LOAN AND CREDIT APPRAISAL

The report will reveal the background of the company, description of the

loans, findings and recommendations based on the experience gathered.

Primary Objective :-

To know about Retail Banking. To study broad outline of management of credit, market and operational

risks associated with banking sector. To understand the importance of banking sector.

Secondary Objective :-
Long Term and Short Term Finances. To study the role of bank in Indian Market.Different types of

services provided by the banks.

The report is based on my critical observation while working in the credit division of Bank of

India. Lending is one of the principal functions of the bank. Sound lending practice therefore, is

very important for profitability and success of a bank. For the sake of sound lending, it is

necessary to develop a sound policy and modern credit management techniques to ensure that

loans/ advances are safe and the money will come back within the time set for repayment. For

this purpose, proper and prior analysis of credit proposals is required to assess the risk. The

comparative analysis shows that Bank of India is in better position, but there are some

obstacles it faces to sustain the position. However, the continuous improvement of the services

will certainly place the bank in the best position in one decade.
