Aim of this project:
 The main objective of our project is to Design and
Fabricate a Solar Water Pump so that it can be used by
farmers and general public for the purpose of
irrigation or domestic use at affordable cost.
 Solar energy is available in abundance and free of cost
so it can be used to power the water pumps which were
previously used to run on electricity generated in coal
plants. By using this solar powered pump we can
reduce the usage of power generated from traditional
coal plants and move a step ahead towards renewable
energy.
PROJECT REVIEW ON
SOLAR POWERED PUMP
 INTRODUCTION :

 SOLAR POWRED PUMP runs on electricity generated by

photovoltaic panels or the radiated thermal energy
available from collected sunlight as opposed to grid
electricity or diesel run water pumps. The operation of
solar powered pumps is more economical mainly due to the
lower operation and maintenance costs and has less
environmental impact than pumps powered by an internal
combustion engine (ICE). Solar pumps are useful where
grid electricity is unavailable and alternative sources (in
particular wind) do not provide sufficient energy.
MAIN COMPONENETS USED
IN THE PROJECT
A photovoltaic solar powered pump system has three
parts:
 Solar panels.
 The controller
 The pump
The solar panels make up most (up to 80%) of the
systems cost. The size of the PV-system is directly
dependent on the size of the pump, the amount of water
that is required (m³/d) and the solar irradiance available.
The Pump:
 The Direct current motors are used for small to medium applications up to
about 4 kW rating, and are suitable for applications such as garden fountains,
landscaping, drinking water for livestock, or small irrigation projects. Since DC
systems tend to have overall higher efficiency levels than AC pumps of a similar
size, the costs are reduced as smaller solar panels can be used
Solar panel :
Solar panel is the main component of the project as it the main

source of the power to the pump.

Applications :
 Irrigation : It can be used in drip irrigation, micro
irrigation, lift irrigation and agriculture water supply.
 It can be used for domestic purposes to fill over head
tanks
 It can be used distillation of water .
 Pond water management and water transfer
 It can be used to drain out the water from cellars and
houses in case of excessive rains

Advantages of this project:
 Solar water pump operate anywhere the sun shines
 System productivity increases in summer when water
requirement is usually greater
 Require minimal service and maintenance
 Powered by clean, renewable energy
 Virtually free to operate, compared to the cost of
diesel-powered generators and grid electricity which is
constantly increasing
 Easily relocated to meet seasonal or variable location
needs
