A building has encroached into the mandatory safety corridor of overhead power lines in violation of regulations. It is extremely dangerous to build under power lines due to the high risk of accidents from wire snaps that can cause fires, injuries or loss of life. The owner is advised to relocate or adjust the building outside the required safety distances from the lines, ranging from 5.5 to 25 meters depending on the voltage, or they will not be liable for any accidents that may occur from contact with the high-tension lines.

ENCROACHMENT INTO POWER LINE CORRIDOR
The Management of _______wish to draw your attention to a building under power
line at ……………………... which has encroached into the power line corridor and as such violates the Right of Way (RoW) requirement as stipulated in Chapter 3 of the Nigerian Electricity Supply and Installation Standard (NESIS) Regulation 2015 Version 1. It is extremely dangerous to build or carry out activities under power lines. Therefore, the building’s present location constitutes a high risk to lives and properties in the event of an accident. The mandatory required distance to power lines for any structure or activities are as follows:
33/11KV lines - 5.5 Meters (20ft) on both sides.
132kv lines - 12.5 Meters (30ft) on both sides. 330kv lines - 25 Meters (60ft) on both sides. Despite campaigns by __________and the Lagos State Government, some landlords and business owners have ignored this legal requirement. Accidents caused by wire snaps have resulted into unnecessary loss of lives and properties; permanent disability and burns of varying high degrees. The risks of accidents occurring are very high during rainy season due to heavy rains and storms. These risks can however be mitigated by strict compliance with the required safe distance. In the light of the above, we therefore advise that you carry out the necessary adjustment or relocate your building from the power line corridor for the safety of your family and your loved ones. Please note that by law, ___________ will not be liable for any mishap which may arise as a result of contact with these high-tension power lines.
