______
THREE

Observations:
The seed of the Long Bean, Vigna unguiculata sesquipedalis, almost has a similar appearance with
the seed of mung beans and other legumes. It has a hilum which is a scar or mark left on a seed coat
by the former attachment to the ovary wall or to the funiculus. The bump above it is the micropyle which
acts as the opening to the integument of the ovule. Its seed coat or test is white in color.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height (cm)? Etc.)
After 5 days, all three of the seeds have started to sprout and appear above the soil. However, one of
them has been developing earlier and faster than the other two. I have used that to create the diagram
for the deedling. The plumule and apical meristem that constitute to the epicotyl is the most evident
structure in the seedling. The epicotyl is being sandwich by two cotyledons that nourishes it. Its size is
about 2 inches in height. I have failed to put the ruler beside it, because I had a hard time documenting
it alone. Thus, I measured the seedling after I took a picture of it.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height (cm)? Any additional parts grown and how
many? Were there any changes in growth? Etc.)
After ten days, the seedling became a young adult plant. It grew into 7 inches in height. The leaves are
now more prominent that its margin, apex, base and shape can now be seen. The main axis of the
stem is more notable, as well.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height (cm)? Any additional parts grown and how
many? Were there any changes in growth? Etc.)
After 15 days, additional 2 inches was added to the height of the young adult plant. It is now 9 inches
in height. The apical meristem of the plant is now growing into a new terminal shoot. The main axis is
still notable, as well as the shape and features of the leaves. The development in the leaves is that
they become broader and the phylotaxy of the leaves can now be seen. Its phylotaxy is opposite
non-decussate.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height (cm)? Any additional parts grown and how
many? Were there any changes in growth? Etc.)
After 20 days, there are only minimal morphological development that occurred in the plant. There was
only additional 10 cm that was added to the height of the young adult plant. New apical meristems start
to emerge as well in the terminal shoot. The leaves became broader.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height? Any additional parts grown and how many?
Were there any changes in growth? Etc.)
After 25 days, new structures are now growing once again. The apical meristem in the terminal section
of the shoot is now developing into a new structure. The development of the meristems are alternating
to each other. The height of the shoot is now 11 inches. Most of the leaves, especially those who
sprouted earlier, retained their shape and size, yet some of them especially on the terminal section of
the shoot, the leaves are still growing and becoming broader.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height (cm)? Any additional parts grown and how
many? Were there any changes in growth? Etc.)
After 30 days, the shoot grew into a height that a foot ruler can't measure any longer. The height of the
plant now is 13 inches. The apical meristem in the terminal section of the shoot has become more
developed now. The leaves in that section become broader and larger. In the main axis of the stem, an
opening occurred on its central portion yet the plant has manage to deal with it, spontaneously.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height (cm)? Any additional parts grown and how
many? Were there any changes in growth? Etc.)
After 35 days, the arrangement of the structures of the plant, such as its meristems and buds are now
becoming more complex. There are now more apical buds and terminal meristems that is developing
in the plant. However, due to natural and environmental factors affecting the plant, one of the plant's
leaves has been ruptured but luckily hasn't wilted, as it grow more. The plant is now 15 inches in
height.

Observations: (what are the parts observed? The height (cm)? What are the problems encountered?
Were there any changes in growth? Etc.)
After 40 days, there is still an on-going growth development in the structures of the plant. The apical
buds are now growing into new structures. The leaves in the terminal section of the shoot became
broader and larger. The plant is now 17 inches in height and climbing adaptation of this plant is now
starting to be seen. However, some accidents happen during the development of the plant. Due to
strong winds, one out of the three plants has been severed from its main axis. The stem cannot
support the plant any longer and withstand the strong wind.
