thoughts, words and actions
actions.

Learning Guide:
1.Ask the kids what they normally do when they have Idols,
may it be a movie star, a super hero, someone popular from
their school, a friend or a family member. Ask 3-53 kids to
share what they do to show their admiration to their idols.

ids: “There are others who show their great

2. Explain to the kids:
admiration to their idol by living a life like their idol. Just like
the saints, they lived a life imitating the life of Jesus Christ, because Jesus Christ is their
greatest idol.”

Storytelling *(PowerPoint Presentation

esentation is available for the stories)
stories

1. Let the kids sit down on the floor. Make sure that the area is clean.
2. Share the life stories of the following saints: St. John the Evangelist, Mother Teresa and Mary
Magdalene

a. The Life Story of St. John the Evangelist

- (about loving God and telling others about Him)
OUT of the twelve Apostles, Jesus chose three, Peter, James, and John, to he His
most faithful companions. John was the youngest of the twelve. He and his
brother
other James had been followers of John the Baptist. But Jesus saw them one
day helping their father mend fish nets. He called to them, "Come, follow me!"
And from that time on they stayed close to Him. Jesus called them "sons of
thunder" because they wished
wished to call down fire on the town which would
not receive their Master. Jesus was pleased to see them so zealous for
His honor. At the Last Supper, John rested his head on the shoulder of
Jesus. He stayed with Jesus during His Passion and death. Jesus
gave His Mother to his care. John preached in Palestine for many
years. Later he was taken as a prisoner to Rome. He was thrown into a
pot of boiling oil, but God kept him from harm. When he was ninety years
old, he wrote his Gospel to prove that Jesus was God as well as man. His
symbol is the eagle because he soars above the things of the earth and speaks of the
divine nature of Jesus.

Page 7
b. The Life story of Mother Teresa
- (about loving the poor)
Once there was a little girl named Agnes. She was born in
Macedonia. When she grew up, she became a nun of a rich
congregation and took the name Teresa. Mother Teresa came to
India as a missionary. She felt disturbed when she saw people dying
in the streets of Calcutta, just outside her wealthy and comfortable
comfortable
home. She felt great compassion for them, just as Jesus felt with the
poor around Him. So she left this rich congregation and started her
own, called Missionaries of Charity, to look only after the dying poor.

c. The Life story of Mary Magdalene

- (about forgiveness)
MARY of Magdala was known to all as "The Sinner." She felt
deep sorrow for her sins. She went to dinner that Jesus was invited to
and she washed His feet with her tears, dried them with her hair, and
poured rich perfume upon them. Simon, who invited Jesus, was
thinking: "If this man is a prophet, He would know who this woman is."
Jesus said to him, "I came into your house and you did not give me
water to wash my feet, but this woman washed my feet with her tears
and wiped them with her hair. Her many sins are forgiven because
she has loved me very much." Then Jesus said to Mary, "Your sins are
forgiven. Your faith saved you. Go in peace." Because Mary Magdalene
Magdalen was thankful, she
followed Jesus everywhere
where and helped Him in His needs.
After His Resurrection, our Lord appeared to her first and said, "Mary."
She answered, "My Master!"

Tips:
- You may use picture cards/posters of the saints for the children to appreciate the story.
Picture of the Passion
n of Jesus are also encouraged to be shown so that the kids have a
visible glimpse of what it means to be loving and serving a suffering Jesus in the dying
poor.
- The picture cards (or overhead slide) must be big enough for all the participants to see.
- The story can then be copied at the back of the picture cards.
- Practice reading the story with the picture cards.
- Make the story alive to the children by using animated tones of voice and facial
expressions.

3. Ask 3-5
5 children to answer this question: Why did the saints chose Jesus as their Idol? They
chose Jesus Christ to be their idol because Jesus Christ popularity never fades, that even 2000
years after He died, He is still and will be popular because of what He did: He loved God with all
His mind, heart
art and soul; He had a great care for the poor and He was ready to forgive people
despite of their sinfulness. He is greater than all the superheroes that we know for He loves
everyone. So now who is your new idol?

Page 8
KFL Activity: (Choose one)

Activity 1: Frame of Jesus

- Provide each participant with a cardboard picture frame and a picture of Jesus.
- Ask the kids to decorate their own picture frames using the art materials that they have.
- Ask them to write on their picture frames, “Jesus is My Idol”.
- Collect and display the work of the children in the activity area.

Activity 2: Paint me a picture with a twist

- Divide the participants into smaller groups of 3
3-5 members
- Give each group materials which they can use as props. E.g. Paper plates, 1 pair of
socks, a chair, etc
- Ask the groups to act out different situation using the materials given to them with the
different ways they can show that Jesus is their idol.
- E.g. I will help my younger brother to do his home work. 1 group mate will act as the
table; Paper plate can serve as a notebook, Socks as a necktie, etc.
- Give at least 3-55 situations.

Processing:
There are many ways we can show that Jesus is our idol. In every little thing we do, we can show
that Jesus is our greatest idol. If we are kind like Jesus, people will see Jesus in us. If we are
obedient to our parents, our parents will see Jesus in us. If we are good to our brothers, sisters,
classmates and friends, they will see Jesus in us.us Therefore
herefore we testify Jesus’ love just like the
saints that we knew awhile ago.

The picture frames we made are a reminder of who Jesus is in our life. He is our idol! The actions
we did during the activity are simple and practical examples of what we can do to show and let
others know that Jesus Christ is our idol.

When you go home today, will daddy and mommy see see Jesus in you? What can you do for others
to see Jesus in you? How would you show (testify) God’s love in your words and actions?

To help the kids realized that God made each one of us unique and they are
empowered to honor and obey Him with what we have.

Learning Guide:

KFL Activity: (C hoose one

one))

Activity 1: Sketch of Myself

1. Provide each child with a ½ crosswise board
paper.
2. Ask them to get their hand mirrors and look at their
face. Let them draw carefully what they see in the
mirror.
3. After making their own portrait, tell them to draw a
frame or a border around the portrait.
4. Instruct the kids to look at their own portrait.
5. Thee team leader now tells the kids “Look at your
own sketch closely. Compare it with your seatmate’s
sketch. Do you see any similarity? Do you look alike?
6. You will notice that even if your drawing is not
perfectly the way you look, there is no other drawing that is the same as the self-portrait
self that
you have made. Yours is different from your seatmate, or any kid inside this room. That is
because God made each of us different from one another. There is no other (child’s name 1),
(child’s name 2) or (child’s name 3) in the whole world. You are one of a kind. You are
special. You are unique. Even identical twins differ somehow in some ways.” Ask the kids to
compare their own sketches with their seatmates and guide them in realizing that each one
is made unique with what he/she has.
7. Let the kids feel their noses, their ears, and their elbows. Tell them at each point that these
parts are specially made for them. (e.g. "Touch your nose...that is a nose that is yours and
you alone! God made it just for you!"). Then go on to say: "This is because God made you
special. And even if your (part of the body) is not how you want it to be, God gave it to you
because you’re special and He loves you very much!” Let everyone say, 'God made me
special.’ Have the kids repeat afte
after you.
8. This time, let them write at the space in their sketch, “I am special! God has made only one
(child’s name) in this world! This is the way I looked on (date of camp).”
9. Ask some kids to share in the group what made them unique and special and how th they can
appreciate with their uniqueness to honor God (e.g. I am unique because I have big set of
teeth and I can chew my food well.)
10. Have the service team collect the sketches and later on, post them around the area of the
venue for the parents to view lat
later
er on when they join their kids after the parents' forum.

Page

Activity 2: Special treasure for a special person
1. Prepare a gift box with a mirror (big enough to see your face) inside.
2. Tell the kids that what you are holding is not just any other gift box. It is a special gift box for
a very special person. The box contains the best gift and treasure anybody could ever have.
This gift came from a very special person - God. Since it is a “special” gift box, whatever is
inside the box depends on who is opening it. Every gift is unique and special.
3. Teach the kids to pray a short prayer like this “Lord, I hope I can see in this gift box the very
special gift that you gave me.”
4. Tell the kids that whatever
ever they see in the gift box is the special gift that God gave them and
they shouldn’t tell anybody yet what they saw until everybody is finished finding out what’s
their gift.
5. Ask the kids one by one to see the gift inside the box.
6. Ask the kids what is their special gifts and ask some insights.

Processing:
Now that we have learned that we are all created differently and everyone is a special gift
from God, we should remember that ourselves and our own life is the greatest treasure that we
could have. We should be thankful for whatever we have and love the life that God
G gave is. God
gave a special time for each and everyone to create us unique from one another.

Activity 1: Acts of Jesus

1. Make a list of good deeds: e.g. Helping an elderly
cross the street; Helping your mother wash the dishes
2. Write each good deed on a strip of paper and fold it
into small pieces. Put the folded strips of paper in a box.
3. Divide the participants into 2 equal groups. Then
divide each group again into 2 sub-groups.
groups. (Team 1: Group
A and Group B, Team 2: Group A and Group B). Ask the kids
to give a name for their group.

4. Give each team an illustration board, chalk and board eraser. Toss a coin to determine
which group will be first.
5. Assign group A to act and group B to guess the good deed. Ask the group A to pick a
good deed from the box. Give them 5 seconds to think and 1 100 seconds to act it out. Give
group B 3 seconds to write their final answer on the illustration board.
6. Have a bell/buzzer/whistle to signal that the time is up. Ask group B to show their answer.
7. Note: Consider the answer even if it is not exactly the same as the one on the paper for as
long as it has the same thought.
8. Give one point to every correct answer. However, the other team may steal if the answer
is wrong.
9. The team with the highest score wins the game.

Processing:
1. Ask the kids to enumerate all the good deeds mentioned during the game.
2. Relate the good deeds to the acts of Jesus, “Now that we already know what good deeds
are, let us compare these with Jesus’ actions. Do you know any acts that Jesus did when
He was alive?”
Example:
Jesus always does good things to others. He heals the sick people.
He respects and loves His mother Mary and foster father Joseph.
He tells others about God. He always obeys and prays to God.
3. Encourage the kids that we can be like Jesus by doing good deeds to others. And that
th in
CFC KFL, we teach the kids how to follow Jesus and become good to others.
4. Ask the kids if they want to be members of CFC KFL. If they do, ask them to make this
promise to God: (to be repeated after the speaker)
5. As a CFC KFL member I promise to imitate Jesus by praying to God every day for my
family, friends and anyone who needs prayers, wherever I am and whatever I am doing. I
promise to make Jesus as my role model by helping, respecting and loving my parents,
brothers, sisters, relatives, frien
friends and everybody.

Page
12
Activity 2: Servant Evangelization
1. Tell the kids: Did you know that St. Francis of Assisi once said "Go out to the world and
evangelize. Use words, if necessary."

“Who knows what Evangelization or to evangelize means?” Ask 3

3-5 responses for this
question. Then explain to them what it means.

“Evangelization or to evangelize means sharing with others about what God has done for
us in word and deed as a sign of His love. For example, when we do good deeds to others
and when they ask
sk why, then we can explain the reason of doing our good deeds in this
way: ‘I have been made special by God and I want to make His love known by doing these
good deeds, just as Jesus did those good deeds to show us how much His Father loves
us.”

2. Today, wee will have an activity called “Servant Evangelization”. We will evangelize or let
others know that God loves them by serving them whatever way we can. It may be as
simple as helping someone carry his/her things, wipe the table for the ates/kuyas, or pick
up trash. Through those little acts of love we will show them that God loves them without
saying a word.

3. I am giving you 20 minutes to show others God’s love through little acts of love
lov and be
ready for some sharing and insight about the activity.

4. Ask some
me kids to share about their experience.

R e c re a t i on Ti m e

To let the kids interact with other participants and make new friends.

Team Leader’s Guide:

- Tell the kids that this is the time to play with other kids,
share some stories and experiences, and meet new friends.
- Let them to go around and make friends with other
children whom they do not know yet. Ask them to list down
5 names of their new friends.
- Bless the food and distribute snacks. Allow the kids as
well to eat with their new friends.
- Allow short free play break.
- Remind the kids to observe proper waste management.

3. How to support the CFC-

CFC-KFL members

3.1. What should not be done?

- Don’t expect major changes in your child’s attitude
- They are the same kids. Four hours of talking to them about Jesus will not turn them into
saints.
- When they continue to exhibit the wrong behavior, don’t nag them, or use this experience
against them (e.g. “KFL ka pa man din, tapos ganyan ka?”); instead, encourage them to
do well and praise them when they do so.

3.2 How to nurture what was started durduring the JKD

- Relate his everyday experiences to what was learned.
- It is the role of the parents to bring Christ to their child.
- CFC-KFLKFL can only support you in this; it cannot and will not take your place. Ultimately,
you are responsible for developing your
your child’s relationship with Christ.
- Your child sees Jesus in you. He/she will know Jesus by the way you show your love for
him/her.
- Service in community can only be real if it is real in the family – stress 1Timothy 3:4-5.
3:4

Page

3.3 Practical tips in nurturing
ing your child’s relationship with Jesus
- Show him/her God’s active role in the everyday events of his/her life.
- It is important to keep communication lines open with your child, so that he/she can
wholeheartedly accept it when you point these things out to him/her.
- Pray daily with your child (but keep your prayers in level with his/her age).
- Give a blessing to your child every day before bedtime and before he/she leaves the
house. (Give a demonstration)
- Support your child’s follow-up
follow and monthly activities in CFC-KFL.
- Attend CFC-KFL KFL activities/meetings especially when you are invited
- Encourage your child to participate in the different activities, and talk about them
afterwards (how it went, if your child enjoyed them, etc.).
- Encourage your child’s friendships with fellow CFC CFC-KFL
KFL members.
- Volunteer your time and resources for the different activities.

4. Closing Session Activities

Introduction:
In a few minutes, your children will be welcomed into the CFC
CFC-Kids
Kids for Family & Life Ministry.
They will officially be called members of CFC
CFC-KFL. Follow-up
up activities and monthly assemblies
will be conducted in order to help your child grow in community life.

The CFC-KFL
KFL ministry is dependent on your support, just as your child is d
dependent
ependent on you as
his/her parent to provide for his/her physical, emotional and spiritual needs. You are very much a
part of CFC-KFL
KFL as well as your child is.
