APPLICATION DETAILS

• For Airless Spray : This is the recommended method of application.

Pressure : 110-160 kg/cm2 (1600-2300 psi)
• Air Spray : Can also be used
Nozzle orifice 1.5 mm - 2.0 mm
Nozzle pressure : 3-4 bar (approx. 43-57 psi)
• Brush or Roller : May be used for difficult shapes or touch-up; however, additional coats may be required to
achieve the recommended film thickness.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Non-Ferrous:
• All surfaces to be coated should be clean, dry and free from contamination.
• Remove all Wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given by SSPC-SP1.
• Mechanically clean the surface using hand or power tools. Avoid polishing the surface
• Ensure removal of surface contamination.
Galvanized steel or Zinc metal spray:
• Mechanically clean the substrate to create roughness, and any white zinc salt deposition.
• If the substrate is glossy or galvanization happened within six months,use Luxaprime 1600 as pretreatment before
Epiflex 1200
• Remove all wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given by SSPC-SP1.
Steel:
• Remove all wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given by SSPC-SP1.
• Where necessary remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp edges to a smooth surface.
• Abrasive blast clean to a minimum standard of Sa 2½ Swedish Standard SIS 05 59 00 or ISO 8501-1:1988.
• Any surface defects revealed by blast cleaning should be ground, filled or treated in a suitable manner.
• Surface profile of 40 microns to 75 microns is acceptable.
• After blasting, remove dust from the surface.
• The surface to be coated must also be clean and dry.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• Avoid contact with the skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing such as overalls, goggles, dust masks and
gloves. Use a barrier cream.
• Ensure that there is adequate ventilation in the area where the product is being applied. Do not breathe vapour of
spray.
• This product is flammable. Keep away from sources of ignition. Do not smoke. Take precautionary measures
against static discharge. In case of fire-blanket flames with foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemicals.
• Dispose off as hazardous waste, Consult local authority.
FIRST AID
• Eyes: In the event of accidental splashes, flush eyes with warm water immediately and obtain medical advice.
• Skin: Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water or an approved industrial cleaner. DO NOT USE solvent or thinners.
• Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, loosen collar and keep patient rested.
• Ingestion: In case of accidental ingestion, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITTING. Obtain immediate medical attention.

Polyurethane High Gloss Finish
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A two component acrylic aliphatic polyurethane giving a high performance finish in new construction and maintenance
industries.
• Long term recoatability properties.
• Excellent colour and gloss retention.
• Resistant to a large number of chemicals and water.
• Can be applied to a wide range of substrates.
DESIGNED USE
• As a finishing coat for structural steel in aggressively corrosive environments.
• As a topcoat for the exterior of chemical storage tanks, pipelines.
• As durable topcoat for topsides modules in the offshore industry.

APPLICATION DETAILS
• Method of Application :
• Airless Spray : This is the recommended method of application.
Tip Size : 0.28 - 0.38mm (0.011 - 0.015 in)
Pressure : 110 - 150kg/cm2 (1600 - 2100 psi)
• Conventional Spray : Can also be used.
• Brush or Roller : May be used. However, additional coats may be required to achieve the recommended film
thickness.
• Note : LUXATHANE 5000 is supplied in two separate containers. Contents must be thoroughly
intermixed before use. Once mixed, allow to stand for 5-10 minutes, this allows any aeration
to settle. Unopened tins should be stored in a warm dry atmosphere away from moisture.

SURFACE PREPARATION
STEEL
• For maximum performance, this product should be applied to a surface that has been blast cleaned and suitably
primed with EPILUX PRIMERS
• A build coat can also be applied e.g. EPILUX 219, EPILUX 218, EPILUX 58, Epimastic 5100.
• The underlying system should be sound and undamaged.
• The surface to be overcoated must be dry and free from surface contaminants.
• Remove all wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given by SSPC-SP1.
• Soluble salts, dirt and dust must be removed prior to coating. Dry brushing should be sufficient. A freshwater wash
must follow to remove all soluble salts.
• Always ensure the maximum overcoating time for the primer/build coat has not been exceeded prior to application.
ALUMINIUM, COPPER, ZINC SPRAYED STEEL, GALVANISED METAL
• Degrease with Solvalux 7-45 and where practical, abrade lightly to form key.
• Pretreat with one coat of LUXAPRIME 1500 followed by one coat of EPILUX 4 tie coat / Epiflex 1200.
• Then apply LUXATHANE 5000 as specified.
NEW WOOD, PLYWOOD, CHIPBOARD, HARDBOARD
• Apply 2-3 coats of LUXATHANE 5000.
CONCRETE, PLASTER, BRICK, SIPOREX BLOCKS ETC.
• Dust down, remove all splashes of plaster, concrete, cement etc.
• Fill up holes, cracks with solventless epoxy filler.
• Apply EPILUX Concrete Primer. A build coat is optional.
• Then apply LUXATHANE 5000 as specified.

LUXAPRIME 1600
Mordant Solution Pretreatment for Galvanised Steel
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A single pack acidic solution of copper salt that is designed to be applied to new and unweathered galvanizing prior to painting.
The product chemically reacts with the surface to form an adherent black chemical complex that :
• Acts as an indicator to ensure galvanised surface is free from surface contaminants.
• Helps to ensure good adhersion of subsequent coatings as it also etches the surface.
• BS 5493 reference. Described under 11.3.2(C) - ‘T Wash’
DESIGNED USE
• As a pretreatment for new galvanised steel prior to painting.

SURFACE PREPARATION
• It is preferable to lightly abrade with a coarse nylon pad or emery paper.
• Rinse off all debris and allow to dry leaving a dust free surface.
APPLICATION
• This product is designed to be applied to new or freshly galvanised steel.
• Clean the surface to remove dust or any oil, grease, contaminants.
• Apply the liquid evenly over the surface ensuring that the entire area is treated.
• The bright metal should quickly darken showing that the reaction with zinc has started. It should be completely
black within 10 minutes.
• If bright areas remain, it indicates that surface is contaminated and should be re-abraded as above using a
recommended solvent and a coarse nylon pad or emery paper. Apply more solution to the retreated areas.
• When the surface is completely black, allow a further 15 minutes to ensure the reaction is complete.
• Wash overall with freshwater to thoroughly clean the surface and allow to dry prior to subsequent painting.
