“ The smart dog “

once, a farmer and his wife had a flock of sheep. Even after all their efforts, a wolf
ate up all the sheep and only one sheep was left. Once, the couple sat talking about
selling the remaining sheep. The sheep heard them and thought, “i’d rather live
freely than be killed by a butcher.”
so the sheep left the farm at night with the guard dog. By chance, the wolf saw
them and thought to get the sheep for dinner. But he knew that he could not harm
the sheep in the presence of the dog. So he said to the sheep, “hey sheep! Come
here and return the coat that i lent you last week.”
the dog understood what the wolf wanted. He saw a trap laid by the farmer near a
tree. So he said, “we will believe you, if you touch the holy chain hanging near the
tree.”
as soon as the wolf went near the tree, his feet got caught in the trap. In the
morning, the farmer was happy that the wolf had been caught. So the sheep and the
guard dog were needed again. Hence they went back with him.

The Crying Stone

Once upon a time, in Kalimantan there lived a mother with

her daughter. The daughter, named Lisa Yadomaru, was a beautiful
girl. However, she had a bad personality. She was an arrogant, lazy
girl. She never helped her mother do the housework.
One day, Lisa and her mother wanted to buy something in the
market. The location of the market was really a long way from their
house, so they had to walk miles away.
Lisa walked in front of her mother. She wore a beautiful
dress. Meanwhile, her mother walked behind her. Her dress was
dirty and ugly. No one expected that the two people were a mother
and her daughter.
Along the journey, people were so impressed with Lisa's beauty.
However, they wondered who the old woman walking behind her
was. Then, one of them asked Lisa, "Hey, beautiful girl, is that your
mother who is walking behind you?"
Lisa arrogantly said, "Of course not. She is my maid."
They continued their journey. And then, a young man met them
and asked, "Hey sweetie, is that your mother who is walking behind
you?"
"No. She's really different from me. How could you say that she's
my mother? She is my maid," replied Lisa.
Every time they walked, Lisa said that the woman walking behind
her was her maid. She never admitted that the woman was her
mother.
Her mother was really disappointed with Lisa. She couldn't bear
it. Lisa's sentences had hurt her. The poor mother finally prayed to
God, "Oh, God. I can't stand this. My daughter always humiliates
me. I am so disappointed with her. Please give her punishment." With
the power of God, suddenly Lisa's body turned into a stone. Lisa
cried and asked for a help, "Please
forgive me, Mom ... please help me.
But, it was too late. All of Lisa's body had turned into a stone.
 Although all of Lisa's body had turned into a stone, people could
see that the stone was crying. The people called the stone 'The Crying
Stone'.

Toba Lake

Once upon time, there was a fisherman who lived in North Sumatra.
One day, when he was fishing in a river, he got a big fish, beautiful
big fish. He was so excited. Then he went home and put the fish in
the bucket. But when he wanted to kill the fish, he felt so pity with it.

In the next day, he went fishing again. But this time, he could not get
any fish. He was so hunggry. Then he went home with empty-
handed. After got there, he was surprised, there was a girl there.

“Who are you?” asked the fisherman.

“I’m the fish” replied the girl.
The fisherman looked at the bucket where he took the fish yesterday.
“You didn’t kill me yesterday, and I’m very thankful. I will return
your kindness” continued the girl.
“well, I lived alone. I don’t have any family. If you want to be my
wife, I will be happy” asked the man.
“Ok, but you have to promise to me. if we have children, don’t tell him
about me. If you tell him, the very bad thing will happen.” The girl
said.

Finally, the fisherman and the fish girl were married. And had a child
named Samo. Samo was very naughty boy, he always play with his
friends and never help his parents.

One day, Samo was asked to deliver lunch to his father. But on the
way to his father, he met his friends and play with them till he forgot
to deliver the meal. Meanwhile his father waited with tired and
hungry and finally the father decided to go home. On the way to
home he saw Samo.

“Samo… where is my lunch” asked his father.

“Mmmmm…. I ate it dad.” replied samo.
“why you eat my lunch” asked his father angrily.
“I’m hungry after play with my friends, I’m sorry dad” Samo said.
“you are naughty samo, don’t come home anymore. You, damn fish’s
son” said his father angrily.

Becasue the father broke his promise, suddenly the sky was getting
dark and the rain fallen down. The water was getting higher and
higher. Samo’s mother was sad and transformed to be a fish again.
Samo run to the hill and stayed there. The water drowns the village.
Then the hill surrounded by the lake.

Now the lake was known as Lake Toba (no marcy) and the hill in the
middle of the lake was called Samosir (evicted Samo) island.

 4. Fairytale

Sleeping Beauty

In a faraway kingdom, there was an empire led by a king and

queen. The king led his region with a very wise and prudent.
Despite being a king, their life was less happy because they did not
have a child. It made the king and queen became sad.

Then one day the queen gave birth to a beautiful little daughter
named Princess Aurora. The birth of the little princess made the
king and the entire kingdom happy. The king was making a big
celebration to welcome his daughter. He invited all the people in the
kingdom, including all the fairies that live in the kingdom. The king
invited them to ask for their blessing. But the king forgot to invite
all the fairies in the kingdom. The facts that there were 13 fairies in
kingdom but the king only invited 12 fairies.

When the celebration party was running on, all of the fairies invited
by king surrounded the little princess to give a blessing. One by one
fairy was utter blessings. One fairy gave blessing of goodness,
another fairy gave blessing of health, and the next fairy gave
blessing of beautiful voice and so on. When the 12th fairy was
about to give her blessing, the 13th fairy who were not invited by
the king come. She was very angry and could not accept this
humiliation.

The 13th fairy was not giving a blessing to the little princess, she
even cursed her. The 13th fairy said, “When the baby is 16 years
old, she will be pricked by a needle and fall asleep for a long time”.
After saying that curse the 13th fairy left the palace using her
broomstick. Everyone in the palace was shocked and saddened as
well as the king and queen. The queen begged to the fairies, “Please
withdraw this curse”. “What have been spoken irrevocable my
queen” said the fairy. The others fairy tried to calm king and queen,
“You do not worry. The princess will not die, she just fall asleep for
a long time “” And this curse will be lost if there is prince who
awakened her “another fairy added. Hearing the explanation, the
king and queen relieved. However, they were still afraid of the
incident occurred. The king ordered to get rid of all the needles in
the palace.

Days passed, Princes aurora grown into a beautiful princess. She

was very good and had very beautiful voice. Everyone in the palace
loved her. At the age of 16, the princess entered a small room in her
palace. She saw a woman who was sewing. The princess was
surprised and asked, “What are you doing?”, “I’m sewing, come here
I will teach you to sew” the woman replied. Princess Aurora did not
know that the old woman is evil fairy in disguise. She took needle in
the hands of women. Then suddenly she was pricked and fell
asleep. When Princess Aurora asleep, all people in the kingdom
were fell asleep too. Then the fairy put her on a mattress.

Years passed, Princess Aurora had been asleep for hundreds of

years. Until the day came, a prince from a distant land approached
the kingdom. He saw a beautiful princess asleep there. Then the
prince kissed princess aurora. Then the cursed was destroyed. The
princess woke up from her sleep, as well as those that exist in the
palace. Eventually they become lovers and lived happily ever after.

Why Does the Sea Become Salty

In ancient times there lived two brothers named Xia Ming and Yao Ming. They
lived on the edge of a beach. One day, their rich father died. Xia Ming which was
the oldest brother brought all the wealth of his father and left his brother.

Then Yao Ming became very poor. He had to work very hard to make a living. One
day, an old man who starved came to his home. He asked for some food to Yao
Ming. Although he lived in poverty, he was very generous. He gave the old man all
his food. “Thank you Son! You’re very good to me! “The old man said. Then he told
Yao Ming to go to the top of the mountain. “Go to the top of the mountain! There
you will find a cave filled with fairies. Go and ask a magic stone to them!” He said.

In the next day, Yao Ming went up to mountain and brought all his foods. When
arriving at the top of the mountain, he found a cave that was intended by the old
man. Then, Yao Ming entered the cave and found a lot of fairies in it. The fairies
were starving; they were attracted to the food which was brought by him. He felt
sorry for them and gave all the food to them. The fairies were happy, “Ask
something to us!” they said. “Give me a magic stone!” He pleaded. Then the fairies
gave him a magic stone. After that he returned to his house.

At first, Yao Ming did not know what the function of the stone is. When he got
home, he was hungry while all his food had run out. “I want to eat something!” He
said to himself. Suddenly a delicious meal appeared on his the table. Since that
day, Yao Ming became affluent people. His brother heard the wonders of magic
rock which was owned by his brother. He stole the stone when her brother was
asleep. Afterward, he went to sail in the ocean.

Xia Ming which was greedy, asked for salt to be sold. Then salt appeared in the
boat but he felt it was not enough to be sold. He asked for more salt so that he
could earn more money. The magic stone continued to excrete salt until the ship
was filled with salt. However, the stones kept excreting salt without stopping till
the ship along with Xia Ming sunk to the sea floor. Until now the stone continues
to excrete salt and make all the oceans became salty.
 6. Science fiction

Pinocchio

In the past, there was a puppeteer whose name is Geppetto. He eager to have
a son very much but his wife passed away several years ago. One day, he got
an idea to make a puppet in order not to be lonely again. He made a puppet
all day long. Finally, in the morning he had finished his work and he named
the puppet Pinocchio. Soon he felt lonely again since Pinocchio couldn’t
walk or talk by itself. One night, Geppetto prayed to the God to become a real
boy. He always thought it on his mind in his dream.

In the next morning, he was surprised that Pinocchio was alive. He taught
Pinocchio how to walk, how to read, how to speak and to do other things as
human. He then studied at an elementary school. One day, Pinocchio felt
bored and it made him go home late. When Pinocchio finally came home,
Geppetto asked him. He said that he was on school but he wasn’t. Instantly,
Pinocchio’s nose grew longer and longer and it meant that Pinocchio has lied.

The next morning, Pinocchio was kidnaped by the owner of circus. Pinocchio
soon became a slave for the circus. He was so famous because he was a
puppet which can talk. Geppetto worried about him because Pinocchio had
not been going home for almost two days. He tried to find Pinocchio
everywhere but he found nothing. When he searched him on the sea, big
wave smashed him. He was then in whale’s stomach when he awoke. He
couldn’t find the way to go out.

In the other side, Pinocchio finally could escape out from the circus. He came
home but nobody was there. Latter on, he searched Geppetto in the sea. He
got the same accident like Geppetto and he met Geppetto in whale’s stomach.
Both of them got out from its stomach by making a fire. In the end of the
story, they went home together and lived happily ever after.
