Due to the growth of our economy in complexity and specialization, there is an ever-increasing
demand for more and better trained accountants. The performance of professional services
requires the exercise of sound judgment in applying professional knowledge and skill.
Professional competence in this case is divided into two separate phases: Attainment of

for us to focus on the first phase. Hence, this study was conducted to determine the factors that
might affect academic achievement of accountancy students namely: personality traits,
aspirations, study habits, and proximity to school.
3. What type of background research have you done for the study?
According to the results given by the PRC, BU landed on the 18th spot of the top school offering
accountancy program in the Philippines. The researchers took interest with this news and
decided to conduct the study in the academic settings. We found literatures related to our
choice of topic and decided to combine these.
We originally planned to obtain these grades directly from our respondents but it would result
to unreliable data. We then tried to obtain their GPA from the office of the registrar however it
would be difficult for them to retrieve the grades of our respondents considering that they have
broader database. Fortunately we were able to obtain a summary of GPA of our respondents
from the promotional report from the office of CBAA.
