    What is FAIRYTALE?
    - A fairy tale, wonder tale, magic tale, or Märchen is an instance of a folklore genre that
    takes the form of a short story. And a children's story about magical and imaginary
    beings and lands.

    How do Fantasy and Fairytale differ from each other?


    FAIRYTALE – it is usually based on an imaginative stories and usually starts with the
    phrase “Once upon a time”. A fairy tale is a fictional story that may feature folkloric
    characters (such as fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, witches, giants, and talking animals) and
    enchantments, often involving a far-fetched sequence of events. On the hand,
    FANTASY – is a kind of genre that is a fantastic notion or mental illusions. A genre of
    speculative fiction set in a fictional universe, often inspired by real world myth and
    folklore. Its roots are in oral traditions, which then became literature and drama.

    A Philippine Literature example of a FAIRYTALE genre:


    - Si Rhodophis: Ang Cinderella ng Ehipto, retold by: Jill Korey O’sullivan.

    An Example of a Philippine Fable:
    - Ang Pagong at ang Unggoy
    One day, there was a turtle and a monkey. The Turtle knew that the monkey was
    cunning, and then they saw a banana tree. It's a tremendous fruit and the monkey was
    happy. But the monkey immediately went towards the tree and immediately pushed the
    turtle and claimed the tree. The Turtle did not agree because he was the first to see the
    tree. Because of that, the Monkey was thinking of an idea. "Let's split the banana tree, me
    the upper part and you the lower part" the monkey promised, and the turtle also agreed.
    Later on, the Monkey woke up leaving the tree with fruit. The monkey thinks he'll make
    a big difference to the turtle. The days passed, the monkey got exhausted up in the tree
    and the fruit and the banana tree died. He was quick to find something to eat. In the
    meantime, the lower part of the tree was planted by the turtle and the days later became
    fruitage. The Monkey finds out that a frustrated and hungry star has left. It is true that the
    saying "A monkey is wise, but not wise enough to succeed."

    This story is considered as a fable because, it involves imaginary folklore


    characters such as a monkey and a turtle. And it really comes with a far-fetched sequence
    in the story. Furthermore, it involves imaginations and gives moral lessons to the readers.
