National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), an autonomous Society under the Ministry of Earth
Sciences, Government of India, is looking for prospective candidates for filling up the position of Project Posts at
NIOT on contract basis, for fixed tenure. Candidates fulfilling the prescribed eligibility conditions are invited to
attend a walk-in-recruitment at National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai. The details of the post are as
follows:

Name of the post Project Scientist – I (Physical Oceanography )
Number of post 03 (Three) – SC – 1& UR – 2
Age Limit Not exceeding 35 years.
(Relaxable to the applicable categories as per orders issued by Central Govt.)
Qualification Essential: Master’s degree in Oceanography from a recognized University / Institute
or equivalent with at least first class not less than 60% marks.
Desirable: Doctorate degree in the relevant field.
Job Requirement i) Coastal processes modeling, planning, coordinating, and managing field data
collection programs, seabed engineering investigations, land survey,
hydrodynamic modeling, related to ocean/coastal engineering.
ii) Physic-chemical analysis of seawater and sediment. EIA studies related to
coastal and marine environment. Metal analysis in the sampled water and
sediment.
iii) Field studies at offshore/coastal regions, laboratory studies, Instrumentation,
Data analysis. Field survey/deployment/retrieval operations.

Age Limit Not exceeding 35 years.

Qualification Essential:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology in Mechanical from a
recognized University / Institute or equivalent with at least first class not less than
60% marks.
Desirable:Master’s degree in Engineering or Technology in Mechanical from a
recognized University / Institute or equivalent.
Job Requirement i) Design of thermal / mechanical systems, Design Analysis, Assembly and
Integration of systems, CFD and heat transfer analysis and Knowledge of turbo
machinery are preferable.
ii) Overseeing fabrication / installation of process components for Island based
desalination plants in Lakshadweep Islands.
iii) Design of thermal / mechanical systems. Design of rotating machinery.
Assembly, Integration and testing of mechanical system. Supervising the
erection and commissioning of equipments at the site.
iv) Knowledge in software like Fluent, CFX, Ansys-Mechanical, Pro-E and AutoCad
3D are preferable.

v) Design, development, integration and testing of SCADA systems for process
plants like Thermal power plant/Desalination and renewable energy systems,
Data acquisition, processing, analysis, handling and maintenance of Process
sensors.
vi) Knowledge in
Lab VIEW/ PLC / PAC/ C/C++ based programming and DAQ hardware design.
Embedded system design for underwater applications, Operation of
Oceanographic Instruments LIKE ADCP, Echo sounder etc. are preferable.

Age Limit Not exceeding 28 years.

Qualification Essential: Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized Board / Institute or
equivalent with at least first class not less than 60% marks.
Desirable:i) Any higher qualification in the relevant discipline/field.
ii) Experience in areas given in job requirements
Job Requirement i) Preparation of drawings, Overseeing construction, fabrication of structures, field
installation activities in coastal / off shore locations, Island based desalination
plants.
ii) Field survey / deployment / retrieval operations. Overseeing installation of
instruments and sensors for Island based desalination plants.
iii) Assist laboratory operations / instrument maintenance, diving skill is an
advantage.
iv) Site execution including reading specifications, drawings, supervising the
construction activity, ensuring quality, co-ordination between various agencies
and contractors.
v) To prepare drawings, estimates and specifications as per CPWD codal
provisions.
vi) Checking of measurements, maintenance of M-Books, processing of bills for
payment and quality assurance. Knowledge in software like AUTOCAD (2D &
3D) is preferable.

Overseeing installation of instruments and sensors for Island based
desalination plants.
v) Erection and commissioning of equipments / machineries, Site supervision
including reading specifications, drawings, supervising the Manufacturing /
Fabrication activity in shop floor, ensuring quality, co-ordination between
various inspection agencies and contractors.
vi) Knowledge in software like AUTOCAD (2D & 3D) is preferable.

Qualification Essential:10th Class Pass (Secondary/Metric) of a recognized board and ITI course in
Mechanical / Fitter / Welder / Machinist approved by National Council for vocational
training or equivalent from a recognized Institutions.
Basic knowledge of computer.
Desirable:Experience of two years in machining operations viz., turning, drilling, surface
grinding and milling/TIG/MIG and Arc welding and gas cutting.
Job Requirement i) Knowledge in installation, dismantling, repair, reassembling of machinery / pumps
/ motors / equipment in factories, power plants, process plants and construction
sites.
ii) Knowledge in welding of MS and SS components, pressure vessels, Boilers.
iii) Knowledge in reading and understanding engineering drawing and symbols.
iv) Overseeing fabrication / installation of process components for Island based
desalination plants.
Welder: Reading and understanding engineering drawings and symbols. Welding of
MS and SS components. IBR certified or TIG/MIG welder is preferable.
Fitter / Millwright mechanic: Reading and understanding engineering drawings and
symbols. Installation, dismantling, repair, reassembling of machineries such as
pumps, motors, turbines and equipments like condensers, vessels.
Experience in Offshore installations and handlings are preferable.

General Conditions:
1. The candidates applying for the above posts should apply on-line through web link
https://www.niot.res.in/index.php/recruitmentand shall download the filled in application form
generated online and produce the same at the time of registration for interview/ Test on the scheduled
dates. The web-link for submission of online application is available till 5 p.m. of 03.07.2019.
2. The registration for the walk in interview/ Test will starts from 8:00 a.m.–10.00 a.m on the scheduled
dates for the posts at National Institute of Ocean Technology, Pallikaranai, Chennai.
3. Interview will be from 10:00 a.m. onwards. Test will commence by 10.30 AM.
4. Tenure: The posts are purely temporary under Project mode on contract basis. The assignment is for
fixed tenure or co-terminus with the project in which he / she is engaged, whichever is earlier.
5. Candidates must be citizens of India.
6. No TA/DA will be paid to the candidate for appearing interview/Test.
7. The person engaged will not be treated on par with regular employees of NIOT and shall have no right to
claim implicit or explicit for their absorption or regularization in NIOT.
8. All candidates are required to bring the original certificates related to educational qualifications, date of
birth, work experience, caste etc. Duly attested copies of all the documents must be submitted with the
printout of the online generated application form and one self attested recent passport size photograph
should be pasted in the appropriate place in the online generated application.
9. The candidates selected are liable to work anywhere in India and can be posted in Islands of
Lakshadweep or Andaman and Nicobar in the projects of NIOT. The projects may involve travel and
operations, field trials in Islands and may involve sea cruises for data collection, sampling etc. The
selected candidates are required to apply and possess/apply immediately for valid Indian National
passport on joining the service.
10. The decision of NIOT in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection shall be final, and no
enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from any individual or his/ her agency.
11. Candidates who are in Government/Autonomous institution and PSU should furnish NOC at the time of
interview.
