DIPLOMA COURSE IN FIRE & SAFETY ENGINEERING

FACT has a rich pool of qualified and experienced Engineers and Managers, specifically in
the field of Fire & Safety Engineering. Besides, the organization has a variety of fire fighting
equipments and state-of-the-art fire fighting installations. The Fire & Safety Engineering
department of the Company is recognized as an effective and functional resource of
Ernakulam District, capable of meeting any major industrial peril. No doubt, the men and
machines at the disposal of FACT, form the back bone to provide the most practical training
to students in Fire & Safety Engineering.
The objective of running a Diploma course is to develop professionals who have adequate
knowledge of the subject and has the confidence to apply practical skill to any real-life
situation in any organisation. In addition to the theory and practical coaching in technical
subjects, the students undergo training in soft skills and personality development
programmes, so that students who complete the course will have the capability in terms of
professionalism and personality.
Fire & Safety Engineering is an expanding discipline impinging almost on all walks of life,
particularly in construction industry. The job market is open for designers / operators /
Engineers to manage Fire & Safety in novel and often unique circumstances.
The Fire & Safety Engineering Course features :
Duration : One year (Two semester)

Fees : Rs.16500/- per semester
Subjects : Safety Management , Safety Engineering, Safety & Law, Fire Engineering-I,
Safety in Chemical Industry, Appraisal Analysis, Industrial hygiene and occupational
health, Safety in Construction Industry and Fire Engineering-II.
Practical training in Fire and Safety systems for more than 200 hours.
Personality development and soft skill training.
Practical training like Squad drills, Hose drills, Hydrant drill, Pump drills, Water and
Foam Tender drills, Ladder drills, Rescue drills, Breathing Apparatus drills, Foam drills,
tactical exercise, resuscitations, words of command etc.
Special certificate programme in First Aid, in association with Indian Red Cross
Society, as a part of the Diploma course.
Hardware Systems and facilities for training – Fire related
Three fire stations with five fire tenders

First aid fire fighting appliances of different types.
Exhaustive fixed fire fighting installations – fire hydrants, fire water monitors, automatic
deluge valve systems, Fixed Foam Systems, Fixed halon systems, fixed CO2 systems,
fixed FM 200 systems.
Fire detectors, manual fire call points, fixed water spray system.
Fire water pump houses.
Hardware systems and facilities for training – Safety related
Safety instruments – explosie meters, multi-gas detectors, sound level detectors,

oxygen measuring instruments and precision gas detectors.
Respiratory types – Breathing Apparatus sets, Chemical protection suit, gas mask
canister for different gases
Non-respiratory types – Helmet, PVC suit, gumboot, Gloves, safety nets, belts
Gas Monitoring Devices (GMD)
Work Permit System
Communication facility – Telephone, intercom, standby communication, Walkie-Talkie,
hot lines, sirens, PA system etc.
Training Methodology
Regular theory classes for five hours a day.

Compulsory library time for one-hour everyday.
Practical training on two days a week on fire fighting installations of the company.
Periodical tests and progress monitoring systems.
Visit to other industries for enhanced knowledge of fire and safety installations
Post Qualification Training
Six months free post qualification training will be given in the Fire & Safety
departments in the Production Divisions of FACT.
Post Qualification training with stipend is assured for eight best performing students in
a Public Sector company at Udyogamandal.
FACT TRAINING CENTRE COMMENCES

VII BATCH OF DIPLOMA COURSE IN FIRE AND SAFETY ENGINEERING
(Approved by State Council for Vocational Training, Govt. of Kerala)
FACT proposes to commence the VII batch of One year (Two Semester) Diploma Course in
Fire and Safety Engineering in August 2013. Eligibility and other criteria are as follows:
Qualification : Pass in VHSC / Plus 2 / ITI course of any trade of two-year duration
Age : The candidates should not have crossed 24 years as on 01.07.2013

SC/ST/OBC candidates will have relaxation as per rules (5 years for
SC/ST and 3 years for OBC).
The candidates should have good physique specified below since the course involves
strenuous drill and practical.
Height : 167 cm (minimum)

Weight : 50 kg ,,
Chest (normal) : 81 cm. ,,
(expanded) : 86 cm ,,

A copy of the following documents are also required
1. Proof of date of birth
2. VHSC / Plus 2 / ITI mark list as applicable.
3. Caste certificate in case of SC/ ST / OBC.
