Julie Smith, Court Administrator

Municipal Courts Division
234 West Washington Street
Phoenix, AZ 85123

Dear Ms. Smith,

I recently learned about the position of Court Supervisor available in the municipal court division. My
upcoming graduation from ASU with a bachelor’s degree in justice studies, over five years supervisory
experience, combined with my mindful people skills provide me the foundation to support and lead the
municipal courts staff.

 Demonstrated knowledge and experience in accounting standards.

 Demonstrated knowledge of legal terminology, federal code and Arizona Revised Statutes.
 Experienced in effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external
stakeholders.

I continually work to streamline processes for efficiency and better customer service. I actively
participated in ASU Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration’s achievement of ISO
certification; ISO 9001:2015.
ISO certification is the world’s most widely recognized quality management standard, which
outlines ways to achieve and benchmark consistent performance and service.

In my ASU positions as Grant and Contract Specialist and Research Advancement Specialist I routinely
review and use legal terminology, federal and state regulations when providing contract policy and
procedure interpretation to academic departments and principal investigators.

I also reviewed and assisted in the preparation of invoices, standard and non-standard accounting reports
to federal and non-federal sponsoring agencies, including, but not limited to, detailed cost and financial
analysis, forecasts and projections reflecting interrelationships of accounting data and provided financial
tracking and fiscal control to fulfill reporting requirements.

As a supervisor I lead by example. In the ASU Graduate College and the American English and Culture
Program I supervised and assisted staff with daily responsibilities, special assignments, monitored and
adjusted workflow for efficiency and deadline management. I also reviewed departmental policies and
procedures updated and implemented as necessary, maintained departmental files, payroll/timekeeping. I
was also responsible for personnel actions including, evaluation of staff annually; managed performance
issues according to human resources policies up to and including termination of employee if necessary.

I pride myself in my ability to resolve complex difficult issues with a positive outcome for all through active
listening skills and look forward to speaking to you about how I can put my experience to work for you
within the Phoenix Municipal Court Division. Please contact me at your earliest convenience by phone at
(602) 123-4567 or email at kcolburn4@gmail.com .

Respectfully,

Kimberly Colburn
