Psychology is Fun!!

Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went
unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the
realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is
a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through
psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior
and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we
operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.

Our brains are altered and restructured by our experiences. All of our interactions transforms us and
regulates what we are later able to observe, reminisce, develop and understand.

"With constant repetition, memories become more deeply ingrained. The brain can teach itself by
repeating words and facts mentally. Remarkably, the technique also works on physical skills." (Discovery
Channel)

To make this statement apparent, I would like to state some of my experiences that can provide concrete
actions to further explain the excerpt.

Every time I go out with the girl I like, I always tend to observe even the slightest details when I'm with
her. Whenever I am alone, I have the tendency to think of the incident. Seriously, it helps me feel better.
The memory of me being with her is already entrenched in my mind that I can always take a perfect
picture of it whenever I want to recall it. Undeniably, anyone can say that thinking of the moments spent
with their loved ones give some kind of motivation that can make their solitary hearts cheer up. Actually,
I am amazed with how my brain works. I am able to think a lot of memories- good or bad- that enables
me to reflect on them. Without it, I don't think I can ever spice up my love life especially that I am
engaged in a long distance relationship.

There are also times that when I see some familiar things, I suddenly think of events that I can associate
with it. This usually happens when I'm experiencing melancholy. Each time I see a family every time I go
to mall, my mind can't resist into thinking of the instances when I am with my family- having a cup of
chocolate in Dunkin Donut after dinner, sharing jokes with each other, and a lot more. Definitely, these
things trigger homesickness. It also shows how the brain enables a person to reminisce things which are
similar to a situation that the person experiences. The excerpt also stated that "the technique also works
on physical skills." Before I got to Grade 2, I had to undergo some martial arts training in Baguio. My
father was the one who convinced me to train in martial arts centers so that I would know how to defend
myself from 'bad' strangers. From this, I have proven that not only mental skills do brain affects; but also,
physical activities. My brain influenced the way I performed in my karate training considering that I
already have a martial arts experience beforehand.
These personal manifestations verified that the brain can teach itself by repeating words and facts
mentally and can also work in recalling procedures (skills and habits). This made me realize how
important the brain is in the human body. Without it, life would be nothing because it is this which allows
us to interact, to experience and to recall all the essential things in our lives.
