Topic: Input and Output devices

Main Idea of the Lesson Understanding computer input and output devices.

Age Group of the Children 8 to 9 years.

Learning Outcomes children will able to


* Identify some input and output devices of a computer.
* Describe the function of the CPU.
* Name various input and output devices and its uses.

Assessment Teacher gives students flash cards of input and output


devices. Teacher tells them to segregate into input and
output devices.
Teacher gives students worksheet pages no 16, 17 and
18 of Inopen text book.

Resources 10 Computers, 15 text books, flash cards of input and


output devices, projector, peripheral devices, PPT of
peripheral devices, photocopies of worksheet of page
no 16, 17 and 18

Previous knowledge required Children must be aware/recognizing parts of computer.

Recall:
 What is an input device?
Close ended Questions:  What is an output device?
 Name three input devices?
 Name three output devices?

Open ended Questions:  Give example of input and output devices not
related to computer?

Teacher Activity Children Activity


1) Starter activity: Children will pay attention to the teacher. Children will
E.g no 1 answer based on the story.
Teacher starts the class by telling a story of how the
fruit tree grows from a seed. Then teacher asks
children what were the various steps involved.
Teacher will write answer on the blackboard. E.g
water and sunshine are the input and the fruit is the
output.

Teacher will show students a calculator, ask its
function and then link with computer and gives its
definition . Teacher will demonstrate by adding two
numbers i.e 2+3=5

2) Main session: During this time children will come up with their own

(Scanner, Speaker, Digital Camera …….) and its
functions. Teacher also teaches students difference
between input and output devices, CPU and its
functions.
