C. Make conditional sentence type 3.

1.She didn’t get up earlier yesterday, so she didn’t arrive on time.

CONDITIONAL SENTENCE

There are three types of conditional sentences.

a. Conditional Sentences Type 1


Pattern : If I find his addres, I will send him an invitation card
If -clause main-clause
(if + simple present) ( will – future)
Note;
Conditional type 1 revers to the future. An action in the future will happen if a certain
condition is fulfilled by that time.
b. Conditional Sentence Type 2
Pattern : If I had a lot of money, I would buy a new house.
If -clause main –clause
( if + simple past (V2) ( would + infinitife (V1)

Note;
# in a conditional sentence type 2, we usually use “were” for all subject.
Example : If I were bird, I would fly around the world.
# the meaning of conditional sentence type 2 is contrdictive to a present situation
Example : If you had breakfast this morning, you wouldn’t be hungry .(it means you
didn’t have breakfast this morning so you are hungry now).
c. Conditional Sentences Type 3
Pattern : If I had studied hard last night, I would passed the exam
If- clause main- clause
( if + past perfect (had+V3) (would + have+ past participle (V3)
Note;
#the meaning of conditional sentence type 3 is contradictive to a past situation.
Example : If Anto hadn’t gone to London yesterday , I would have met her (it means
Anto went to London yesterday, so I didn’t meet her).

The main clause can be put either at the beginning or end of the conditional sentence. I it
is put at the beginning, we don’t use a comma.
Example ;
 I will send him an invitation card if I find his address
 If I had a lot of money, I would buy a new house
 I would have passed the exam if I hadn’t been busy with my work
