Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) June 26, 2019

DLP Learning Area: EARTH

No.: AND LIFE Grade Level: 11 Quarter: 1st Quarter Duration: 60 minutes
16 SCIENCE
Learning The learners: Code:
Competency: explain how products of weathering are carried away by S11/12ES-Ib-12
erosion and deposited elsewhere.
Key Concepts/
Understanding to  Weathering (exogenic process) is the physical and chemical breakdown of rock
be Developed: material at and near Earth’s surface to form sediments.
 Erosion in-situ removal of sediments from their source.
 Deposition is the settling of sediments due to the decrease in energy of the
medium.
 Transport is the movement of sediments using a medium such as water or wind.
 Mass wasting (mass movement) is a collective term for the downslope transport
of surface materials in direct response to gravity.
 Geomorphic agent, a medium that picks up, moves, and eventually lays down
pieces of broken rock matter.
Knowledg Explain how the products of weathering are carried away by erosion and
e deposited elsewhere.
1. OBJECTIVES Skills Describe the agents of erosion, transportation and deposition.
Attitudes Display open-mindedness during group activity.
Values Give ways of caring the environment.
2. CONTENT EARTH MATERIALS AND PROCESSESS

4.
PROCEDURES
4.1 Introductory Review:
Activity What is weathering?
What happens to rocks that undergo weathering?
Where would they go?
4.2 Activity Gallery Walk Strategy
 The students will be grouped into four.
 Each group is given time to answer the questions posted in their assigned station.
 Each station has a picture depicting weathering and erosion.

4.3 Analysis Teacher asks relevant questions:

What did you feel upon performing the activity?
What does picture 1 tells us? Picture2? 3 and 4?
What causes such event to occur?
What do all of these pictures have in common?

4.4 Abstraction  The teacher will discuss concepts through power point presentation or video
presentation. The teacher will point out important key concepts like:
Weathering
- an exogenic process consists of various means of rock breakdown.

Erosion, Transportation and Deposition

- The relocation of weathered rock produced in the continuum processes known
as erosion, transportation and deposition.
- A rock fragment broken (weathered) from a larger mass will be removed from
that mass (eroded), moved (transported), and set down (deposited) in a new
location.
- Erosion, transportation and deposition act through the force of gravity or operate
with the help of a geomorphic agent.
- The most common geomorphic agents are flowing water, wind, moving ice,
and waves and man.

4.5 Application What would eventually happen to the community if the people continue practicing the
extraction of deposited materials (sand/gravel) in the rivers/beaches?
4.6 Assessment Essay:
What are the agents for the transportation and deposition of fragmented rocks? Describe
each agent.
How products of weathering are carried away by erosion and deposited elsewhere?
4.7 Assignment For the learners :
-(Group with 3 members)
Take a picture/s in one’s locality/barangay which undergoes erosion or prone to mass
movement. Make a short description of your picture.
4.8 Concluding
Let the learners sing the song entitled : Weathering and Erosion Song
Activity
5. REMARKS  Teacher should check / try first compatibility of laptop to LCD projector
 Use high definition video presentation
 Check on audibility of the video
 Pictures must be clear
6. (This will be filled up by the teacher if the lesson has been carried out.)
REFLECTIONS
-I find the strategy effective. It encourages students to share their ideas.
- The video clips help the students visualize on the concept presented.
