A Reflection On The Movie Hachi A Dogs Tale
Plot/ Synopsis
The movie was based on a true story of the love and devotion between a man and a dog.
Commuting by train, music professor Parker Wilson finds an Akita puppy, whose cage broke
unnoticed during shipping, leaving his destination unknown, and since the station can't care for it
and the dog catcher warns even such cute ones may not be adopted in the two weeks allowed, he
kindly takes it home. His wife Cate initially makes Parker swear it won't stay, but by the time its'
clear nobody will claim him and an adoption candidate is found, she agrees to keep the dog, who
won over their daughter Andy and her fiancé Michael at first sight. Parker's Japanese college
friend Ken inspires naming the pup Hachi, and is pleasantly surprised when Parker successfully
tackles the challenge to get it to fetch, which Akitas don't usually do. Hachi makes a habit of
waiting for his equally master at the train station every evening, but after a cardiac crisis, Parker
dies. Hachi refuses to accept this, being moved to Michael's home as Cate moves out, waiting for
a master who can never come home again, by now collectively adopted by town people. The
story is told in flashbacks as class assignment 'my hero' by Michael's teen son Robbie, who also
gets an Akita puppy.
Observation/Reflection
The dog breed is Akita a powerful, independent dominant breed but affectionate with
family member. The movie is a family film a tender tale that offers lesson of friendship ,loyalty,
commitment and love as exemplified by the dog Hachi. The movie was based on a true story in
Japan. The dog name was Hachiko. He was born in 1923 and has remarkable loyalty to his
owner to whom he continued to wait at a train station for over nine years until his death in 1935.
Me and my wife are dog lovers we have 5 dogs but my wife take care of 9 other stray
dogs. We notice every time we leave would cry and howl and very happy when we arrive. One
of the male dog accompany my wife to the store every day. They are definitely man’s best
friend.
I notice how loyal Hachi is to his owner by waiting for him. This must also be our
attitude as Christian while waiting for the blessed hope the glorious appearing of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ ( Titus 2:12-13) God created the plants and animals before He created the
human. It means He created them for us to be our companion and to manage them. Psalm 24.1
The earth is mine and everything in it says the Lord. Psalm 147.9 tells us that Godis concerned
for all his creation including animals he created.
