The novel Captain Nobody by Dean Pitchford follows the character Newton Newman, also known as Captain Nobody. Over the course of the novel, Newton maintains relationships with others in three key ways. First, he helps his friend Cecil retrieve a large bass drum from a dumpster. Second, he assists his friend JJ at a jewelry store, even though he was in a hurry. Third, Newton helps improve his relationship with his enemy Reggie by climbing a water tower to clear Reggie's name. Throughout the novel, Newton demonstrates the importance of maintaining relationships with friends and others.

The novel that I have read is Captain
Nobody by Dean Pitchford. Maintaining
relationship is important. This is shown by a character named Newton Newman or also known as Captain Nobody. The reasons I choose Newton is because he maintains relationship when he helps Cecil to get the big bass drum. He also maintains his relationship with JJ when he responds to JJ’s request at the jewellery store. And finally, he also helps Reggie Ratner at Appleton Water Tower.
Firstly, Newton maintains his relationship
with Cecil when he helps him to get the big bass drum at the dumpster. In the novel, Cecil found a big bass drum but he could not get it because he is short. So, he called Newton to help him as he is afraid of height, but finally he managed to get it. I think Newton is a good friend who always helps people in trouble. In our life, we are encouraged to be kind to one another. Next, Newt maintains his relationship with JJ when he willingly helps JJ at the Sullivan jewellery store. In the novel, JJ called Newt to go to Sullivan jewellery store to talk to Sullivan couple about the grammar and spelling mistakes on the board. Even though Newt was rushing home, for the sake of their friendship, Newt went there instead. And unexpectedly a robbery was happening when they arrived there. The two friends were scared their hearts out. In my opinion, Newt always think about others first especially his best friends even though he himself is in trouble. We also should appreciate the value of friendship in our life. Thirdly, Newt maintains his relationship with everyone including his enemy, Reggie Ratner. This is shown when Reggie climbed up Appleton Water Tower and everyone thought that he wanted to commit suicide. But, being a responsible person, Newt went to the scene and explained the truth about the Big Tackle. Reggie Ratner was not the cause of Chris being in coma. Hence, Newt wanted to improve his relationship with Reggie, he is willing to overcome his fear of height and climbed the water tower instead. In my opinion, Newt is responsible and brave and he did that action to maintain his relationship with Reggie. In our life, sometimes, we must willingly overcome our fears in order to maintain our relationship with others. In a nutshell, Newt maintains his relationship with everyone he knows regardless of who they are. Be it his best friends or enemy, he tries to help both and make things easy for them. “Bila kamu tak tahan lelahnya belajar,, maka kamu akan menanggung peritnya kebodohan” - Imam Syafie
