I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the class discussion, the pupils must be able to identify Fact and Opinion with a
mastery level of 75 %.

III. PROCEDURES

pieces of rubbish that you see.
Before we start our class let us pray first.

B. 1. MOTIVATION
Right now I will be giving you a short group

activity. Please listen carefully to the
instruction. Group yourself into 2 and select a
leader to present your work later on. I will give
each group an envelope and each envelope
contains 2 tiny envelopes which has a
scrambled letters on both of it. What you are
going to do is to solve the scrambled letters in
each tiny envelopes. The first group to finish
the work will receive 5 points plus 5 points for
every correct answer.
Understand? Yes ma’am.

2. PRESENTATION
So, what do you think is our lesson for today? Our lesson for today is about fact and opinion.
Okay, that’s right. Our lesson this morning is
about fact and opinion.
So who among you here knows what a fact is? (Pupils will answer.)
How about an opinion?
Before we go on to our lesson proper I have
here a short video clip about fact and opinion.
Please listen to the video and while watching
kindly take down notes because later I will be
asking some question.

3. DISCUSSION

Fact is something that is always true and can

be verified with evidences. Say for example,
My name is Rosenda B. dela Peña. Is it a fact or
not?
Of course it is a fact since my name is really
Rosenda B. dela Peña. I am stating information
that can be proven with evidences.
And what particular evidence can I use to
support it?
We can use Birth Certificates, Registration
Form, Form 137, PSA and etc.
Another example: Mangoes are fruits.
Fact or opinion?
It is fact because mangoes are fruits and it can
be proven with evidences.
Another example: Lapu lapu killed Magellan
during their fought in Mactan. Fact or opinion?
Of course it is a fact because it states what
really happened in the past. It can be proven
by history.
Another meaning: Fact can be proven by
reliable authority or information such as based
on statistics, scientific law, history books and
others.
Ex. PAG-ASA weather report announces the
upcoming Typhoon Nene that will enter PAR
on Monday at exactly 2pm with a maximum
speed of 170-200 kph.
The statement is a fact since PAG-ASA
(Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical
Astronomical Services Administration) have
always been our source of weather
information ever since. (can be proven by
reliable authority).
Ex. The Sun is the center of the Solar System.
Is it a fact or not? It is a fact because of a law
known as Heliocentric Theory which states
that the sun is the center of our solar system.
It is based on science concepts.
Ex. Rizal died in Luneta Park. The statement is
fact because history tells us that Rizal died in
Luneta.
Do you understand class? Yes ma’am!
Always remember that fact is always true, can
be proven by reliable authority such as based
on statistics, scientific law, and history books
and something that really happened in the
past.
Let us go to Opinion statements.
Opinions are those that cannot be proven.
Ex. I guess it will rain tomorrow.
The statement is an opinion because you are
not sure about your statement, you only guess
it and you cannot prove it alone.
Another meaning: Opinion is based on
someone’s thoughts, feelings, beliefs,
understanding, hearsays, perceptions, thinking
and others
Ex. Dogs and cats are ugly.
It is an opinion because it is based only on your
feelings and perceptions about dogs and cats.
It’s what you feel and how you perceive dogs
and cats but to others it may vary. Some loves
to have dogs and cats as their pets. Therefore,
it is an opinion.
Ex. I think he had a huge crush on me.
You only think that he has crush on you. You
are not so certain about your statement. It’s an
opinion.
Ex. At night, if you see a black cat along your
way home it’s a sign of bad luck.
The statement is an opinion because it is just a
belief and it cannot be proven by any authority
especially science.
Ex. Everyone must be of extra care because
Friday the 13th is coming.
This is an opinion.
Friday the 13th has always been a very
threatening and most scared calendar days
which believe by many people but it has no
origin and only hearsays.
Ex. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is the best
president ever sat in the Philippine
Government.
The statement above is an opinion because not
all people believe that he is the best. Some
may say his not. It’s your feelings towards him
therefore, it is an opinion.
Remember that sometimes we use the
following word: I think, maybe, in my own
opinion, perhaps, I guess, I might, seems and
others to make an opinion statement.
Is it clear class? Yes ma’am!
4. APPLICATION
This time we will have another activity, please
listen carefully to the instruction.
Instruction: Form two groups and select 8
representatives from each.
Group 1 will stay on the right side and group 2
on the left side. Select 1st player, 2nd player, 3rd
player until 8th player. Each group will receive a
basket and each basket contains statements.
You are going to pick 1 question in the basket
then provide the correct answer for it in order
to gain 1 point. After the first player is done
the second player is now allowed to pick
another statement from the basket.
Remember, wait until the first player is done
answering until followed by another player.
Each group will write their answer on the
board.
The first group to finish will receive 10 points
plus additional number of correct items.
Are you ready? Yes ma’am!

(After they are done, check their work and
note who’s the first group to finish and never
forget to recognize their work.)
5. GENERALIZATIONS
What is the difference between fact and Fact is always true and can be proven by
opinion? evidences while an opinion is something that
is not true and cannot be proven.
How can we say that a statement is fact? If it states a truth and can be proven by
reliable sources of information such as
statistics, scientific law and history books.
How can we say it is an opinion? It is an opinion if it is not true.
When do we use a fact statement? We use fact statement to give information to
other people based on specified evidences.
When do we use an opinion? We use an opinion statement if we are not so
sure about certain topic or ideas.
What word do we used sometimes in stating I think, in my opinion, maybe, seem, perhaps
an opinion? and others.

IV. EVALUATION
At this moment, we will check if you really
learned something. Kindly get ¼ sheet of paper
then answer the following on the board. Direction: Identify the following statements if
it is a fact or opinion. Write F if it is a fact and
O if it is an opinion.
1. Dr. Jose Rizal is our national hero.
2. Volleyball is the best sports here in the
Philippines.
3. Carabaos have four legs.
4. Everyone has a birthday to celebrate with.
5. The school heads might cancel the program
tomorrow.

Pass your paper and copy your assignment
written on the board.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Watch any television news and list 5 facts and
5 opinions you heard. Write this in your
assignment notebook.
