7. Due credit will be given to neatness and adequate dimensions.
8. Assume suitable data whenever necessary.
9. Illustrate your answers whenever necessary with the help of neat sketches.
10. Use of non programmable calculator is permitted.
11. 15800-1984, 15800-2007 structural steel table may be consulted

1. An ISMB 300 transmit end reaction of 200kN and bending moment of 90kN-m to the 14
flange of column ISHB 300 @ 576.8N/m. Design a welded connection.

OR

2. Design a framed connection at the end of a beam ISMB 300, 8 m span, carrying a total 14
UDL of 20 kN/m with flange of a column ISMB 500.

3. Explain in detail load effect on self supporting chimney and on cantilever chimney. 14

OR

4. Design a steel chimney to the following particulars: - 14

- height of the chimney – 60 m
- diameters of the chimney – 5 m
- thickness of the lining – 110 mm
- wind pressure – 1.5 kN/m2 of flat vertical surface.

5. Design a suitable section for gantry girder to be used to carry electrically operated single 14
crane. Use following data:
i) Crane capacity = 300 kN
ii) Span of gantry girder = 7.5m
iii) End clearance = 1.3m
iv) Wheel base = 2.6m
v) c/c of gantry rails = 12m
vi) Weight of crab = 50 kN

7. For a 'N' type foot bridge truss, design on top, one bottom and one vertical member using 14
following data.
i) Span of truss = 16 m (8 panels @ 2m c/c)
ii) Height of truss = 2m
iii) Width of pathway = 3m
iv) L. L = 4 kN/m2

8. State the various factors for selection of type of bridges. Explain in detail. 14

9. An overhead rectangular water tank consists of a container of plan dimension 7m x 10m 14

and height is 2.5m. The tank was supported on four columns, c/c distance between columns
along shortes span is 6m, while in longer direction is 9m, design bottom plate of container
and upper tier of beams. Assume spacing and number of beams.
