What section of the newspaper do you read first? Do you start

with the news, entertainment or sport section? Or maybe, you
don’t read any of these sections at all and just turn to the comics.
Many young people today aren’t interested in reading about
world news or politics. They prefer comic books to newspapers.
In Japan, this is seen as a problem. But an interesting solution
has been found – Manga No Shimbun – the online newspaper in
comic form.
Manga No Shimbun, meaning Manga Newspaper, uses the
manga comic style to present news and current events. A manga
is a popular type of comic book in Japan, with large drawings
and speech bubbles. Usually, manga comic books are collections
of adventure, fiction, science fiction or fantasy stories. But in
Manga No Shimbun, the “stories” are serious news articles.
The Manga No Shimbun website uses over one hundred manga
artists to prepare its newspaper. It takes about eight hours to
produce a two-page news story and changing news means that
changes are made to the website 10 or 15 times a day. Stories are
presented in a variety of styles. Some are in colour, others in
black and white. Some have realistic pictures of people, places
and things, others are more imaginative and fun.
At the moment, Manga No Shimbun is only available in
Japanese, but there are plans for international versions in
Korean, French and English. So, maybe one day in the future,
we’ll all read comics to find out what’s happening around the
world.

Lynn’s
I have just come back from an amazing day in New Delhi, the capital of
India. I saw many places in the city and I took some great photos in one of
the markets.

Here are some of the amazing photos I took!
The most interesting place we went to was the National Gandhi Museum. I
had heard the name Gandhi before, but I didn’t know much about him until
today.
At the museum, I learned that Gandhi was a very special person. He was a
small and quiet man. He dressed in simple clothes and lived in a very
simple house. He didn’t look or behave like a great leader, but he changed
the history of India. The Indian people loved and admired Gandhi so much
that they gave him the name “Mahatma”, which means “Great Soul”.
Mahandas Karamchard Gandhi was born in India in 1869. When he was
19, he went to London to study law. Then he moved to South Africa, where
he worked as a lawyer. In 1915, Gandhi returned to India. At the time, India
was ruled by the British and the British often treated the Indians badly.
Gandhi believed that his country should be free, but he didn’t believe in
using violence. So he organised peaceful demonstrations against the
British.
In the end, Gandhi succeeded. The British left India and it became an
independent country in 1947. Sadly, Gandhi was shot and killed in 1948 by Mahatma
