WESTPORT MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL CONTRACT

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Westport Warhawk Football Program is to provide the STUDENT-athlete an
instructional, competitive and enjoyable middle school football experience. We hope to make this a very
positive and special learning experience.

I, _______________________________(Student-Athletes name) want to be a member of the Westport

Middle School football program. In exchange for the PRIVILEGE of being on the team, I promise to do
the following:

1. Academics will be first.

A. Grades are extremely important to the future of a student-athlete. Student-Athletes are
expected to remain eligible through the season and the remainder of the school year. A
player can be dismissed from team based on grades. The coaches reserve the right to
suspend, dismiss, limit playing time and/or discipline any student-athlete who does not
maintain and succeed in the classroom. By signing this contract, you give the WMS
Coaches the opportunity to review grades and help athletes remain eligible.
2. Attendance
A. I will be on time for all practices and events. I will be ready 10 minutes before practice
begins. I will be properly dressed, No jewelry, phones, etc. It is understood that you
may miss due to illness and family issues. However, you as a player will contact your
coach the prior to the start of practice or an event.
B. Any unexcused absences (practice/team meeting/game) will result if forfeiture of
starting spot/playing time for that weeks game (coaches decision).
3. Attitude
A. I will pay attention when the coach speaks. I will be coachable in every part of the
practice and I will not show any horseplay whatsoever in practice. My attention will
always be with the team first. I will listen to the coaches at all practices and events. I will
listen to all teachers while I am in the classroom.
4. Profanity
A. At no time is profanity consistent with the WMS Football Program. If a player cannot
control his tongue, we will question his ability to control his emotions during the game.
Profanity is NOT part of a CLASS PROGRAM.
5. Playing Time
A. Playing time and Positions are NOT negotiable issues. Every athlete will have the
opportunity to compete for playing time, but NO ONE is guaranteed a set amount of time
on the field.
6. Dress/Attire
A. Football players are expected to dress in a neat and professional manner (shirts tucked in,
no sagging pants/shorts) when representing the WMS Football Program. Dressing for
road trips and game days (during school) will require dress/clean shoes, slacks/nice jeans,
collard shirts (under jerseys) and ties (if not wearing jersey)
B. There will be NO jewelry, bandanas, hairnets or hats worn during practice, games or at
other locations while representing WMS Football Program.
7. On game day STUDENT-ATHLETES MUST attend school in order to play/practice.
8. All football players are required to ride the team bus (to and from the game). See Coach for
Exceptions.
9. As a team member, I will always go to the coaches/team members if there is a problem I need
help with.
10. ABSOLUTELY NO HORSEPLAY WITH OTHER TEAMMATES, ESPECIALLY WHEN
THE COACHES ARE TALKING. I WILL STAY ATTENTIVE AND MY EYES WILL BE
FOCUSED ON THE COACHES WHILE THEY SPEAK.
11. In order to provide our athletes with an effective football program, coaching is limited to THE
WESTPORT FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF. Parental contact is not accepted during practices
or games. The player-coach relationship is delicate; therefore the parents should allow this
relationship to operate at its highest level.
12. Hard work and commitment are expected from every member of the Westport Warhawk Football
Program.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!!

Student-athletes are expected to maintain and demonstrate a positive, team oriented attitude throughout
the football season. Players need to be coachable and understand that they are PART OF A TEAM.

Consequently, overall success depends on accepting roles within the concept of the team. Any attitude
contrary to these ideals may result in disciplinary action, less playing time, suspension or dismissal from
the team.

The intent of this contract is to communicate clearly and effectively the purpose, goals, expectations and
philosophies of the Westport Warhawk Football Program. The contract is designed to promote and help
insure a positive atmosphere for everyone involved. We want your student-athlete to be a great football
player, but more importantly we want them to be outstanding individuals. A successful 20___ season
