Competency of APC students on the Efficient Use of Mathematical

Language and Symbols

INSTRUCTION: Check the circle to rate your understanding on each of the topic given below.
The main objective of this study is to examine the competency of the students in Asia Pacific College in using the
Mathematics Language and Symbols. The form has two sections; the first one is your competency based on the
content while the second section is your competency based on the process.
The form is quite long that it really needs patience to finish and the researchers would appreciate a lot if you answer
each question wholeheartedly. Thank you!

Section 1

Competency based on Content

1.Numbers and Operations

Not at All Not Really Undecided Somewhat Very Much

Can easily represent numbers both in spelled form and in

numeric form.

Can understand the meaning of operations and how they relate to

one another.

2.Algebra

Not at All Not Really Undecided Somewhat Very Much

Can understand patterns, relations, and functions.

Can represent and analyze mathematical situations

and structures using algebraic symbols.

Can use mathematical models to represent and

understand quantitative relationships.

3.Geometry

Not at All Not Really Undecided Somewhat Very Much

Can analyze characteristics and properties of

two-and-three dimensional geometric shapes
and develop mathematical arguments about
geometric relationships.

Can use visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric

modeling to solve problems.
4.Measurements

Not at All Not Really Undecided Somewhat Very Much

Can understand measurable attributes of objects and

the units, systems, and process of measurements

Can apply appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to

determine measurements.

5.Data Analysis and Probability

Not at All Not Really Undecided Somewhat Very Much

Can formulate questions that can be addressed with data and

collect, organize and display relevant data to answer them.

Can select and use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data.

Can understand and apply basic concepts of probability.

6.Problem Solving

Not at All Not Really Undecided Somewhat Very Much

Can solve problems that can arise in mathematics and in

other contexts.

Can apply and adapt a variety of appropriate strategies to

solve problems.
7.Reasoning and Proof

methods of proof

8.Communication

Not at All Not Really Undecided Somewhat Very Much

Can organize and consolidate your mathematical thinking

through communication.

Can communicate your mathematical thinking coherently

and clearly to peers, teachers and others.

Can use the language of mathematics to express mathematical

ideas precisely.
9.Representation
