IOC lifts sanctions against India to host international sporting events

A non-governmental sports organization based in Lausanne, Switzerland, IOC (International Olympic
Committee) lifted its sanctions imposed on Indian Olympic Association (IOA) hosting international sports
events. The restriction imposed under points 2 and 3 of the IOC EB decision in relation to giving permission to
host sports events, lifted by the IOC.

• The Indian Sports Secretary, Radheshyam Jhulaniya stated that the Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to come under the jurisdiction of the anti-doping watchdog,
National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) after years of resisting the move. BCCI calling itself an
autonomous body, and was against the signing up with NADA for a period of time. The Indian
cricket board decided in march 2019 to work with the country's anti-doping agency on a trial
period of 6 months.

• The Women’s Cricket team of Thailand rewrote a world record by winning 17th successive

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, defeated Greece’s two-time world bronze medalist Maria Prevolaraki and won
a bronze medal in the women’s 53kg category at the “2019 World Wrestling Championships” held in Nur-
Sultan, Kazakhstan. Earlier she won both matches of the repechage round in the 53kg category and became
the first Indian wrestler to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Indian wrestler Deepak Punia, aged 20, clinched the top spot in the rankings released by United World
Wrestling (UWW), an international federation for wrestling, in the 86 kg category with 82 points. He had
recently won silver in the World Wrestling Championships 2019 held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Iran's Hassan
