Ansys Apdl Problem

1. The document describes using ANSYS to perform a 2D thermal analysis of an axi-symmetric aluminum plate with dimensions of 200 x 100 mm and a thermal conductivity of 168 W/mK. 2. The steps include defining the geometry, mesh, material properties, boundary conditions of 80C on one side and 50W/m^2 convection on the top with a temperature of 20C, and solving for the temperature distribution. 3. The results are post-processed to plot the temperature distribution across the plate.

2D Thermal Analysis of Axi-Symmetric Plate

Problem: Consider a small rectangular aluminum plate with dimensions 200 x 100 mm and a
thermal conductivity of 168 W/mK as shown in the Figure below. Using ANSYS, solve for the
temperature distribution in the plate.

GUI Solution:
1. Starting:
Click → start → ANSYS → ANSYS product launcher
Launch – ANSYS Multiphysics
File management → browse the directory for saving and retrieving the files.
Click → run

2. Preferences → tick → thermal → select h-method → ok

3. Title:
Utility menu → File → Change title → “Axi-symmetric Plate” → ok.
Utility menu → plot → replot

4. Elements:
Main menu → Preprocessor → element type → add → add → thermal → Quad 8node
(PLANE77) → ok
