O. Air Pressure Regulator Adjustment (see figure 12) – The following procedure must
be performed by a qualified technician trained by a TLD service technician. Do not
adjust the air pressure regulators without proper training as improper adjustment
can severely damage the unit or airplane.
CAUTION:
ADJUSTING THE REGULATORS HIGHER THAN 40 PSIG COMPRESSOR
DISCHARGE PRESSURE (OR HIGHER THAN THE MAXIMUM PRESSURES
LISTED IN CHART 4 FOR HIGH ALTITUDE OPERATION) WILL VOID THE UNIT’S
WARRANTY. CONTACT TLD SERVICE IF ADJUSTMENT IS REQUIRED.
(1) Connect a calibrated gage to test port P10. The unit gage, G2 is only for operator
reference. Verification of the correct pressure setting must be done with a calibrated
gage (Refer to the Flow Diagram in Chapter 2).
(2) Close the delivered air shutoff valve(s) and set the selector switch to STANDBY.
(3) Start the engine and allow to warm up. Then put the unit in air pacs or jet start mode.
The engine will ramp up to the mid-range speed of approximately 1700 rpm.
(4) Remove lead seal and cap on the associated regulator (air pacs V35 or jet start V34).
(5) Rotate the adjusting screw counter clockwise to reduce delivered air pressure down
to 15 psig. The engine speed will reduce well below 1700 rpm.
NOTE:
The purpose of reducing the delivered air pressure down to 15 psig
first is because the regulators must be set on INCREASE.
2-1
Page 28
Aug. 8/07
TLD
Operation & Maintenance Manual
ASU-600 Series Continuous Jet Start Units
(6) Slowly rotate the regualtor adjusting screw clock wise while watching the calibrated
gage on P10 increase. Stop when the air pressure is at the desired setting (air pacs
30-32 psig (or 23-25 psig for some customers) or jet start 38-40 psig (40 psig max)).
(7) Replace the cap on the regulator after obtaining the desired delivered air pressure.
(8) Exercise the unit in the mode (air pacs or jet start) that was adjusted by opening and
closing the shut off valves.
1. The maximum pressure seen on the gages occurs when the shutoff valve(s)
are closed and should be per the settings listed above. The engine speed will
be at the mid-range speed of approximately 1700 rpm.
2. When the valve(s) are opened, the pressure will reduce and the engine
speed will increase depending on the restriction at the end of the hose. With
a low enough restriction, the engine speed will increase to its maximum (2100
rpm for 180/200/270 ppm units and 2300 rpm for 300 ppm units).
(9) With the unit working properly, apply a tamper-proof seal on the regulator caps per the
illustration below to insure the regulator settings are not inadvertantly changed.
(10) Disconnect calibrated test gage and re-install cap at P10. Return the unit to service.
