Inpro/Seal VB45-PB Bearing Isolators increase pillow block MTBR with

permanent bearing protection.
Pillow Blocks, an important component to the rotating process, are designed to operate many years. Unfortunately, they can
be a consistent cause of downtime due to premature bearing failure. To increase reliability and mean time between repair
(MTBR) throughout your plant, protect pillow blocks from the most common causes of premature bearing failure – lubrication
loss and contamination ingress.

The Inpro/Seal® VB45-PB Bearing Isolator, designed specifically for pillow block applications, is a non-contacting,
compound labyrinth seal that permanently keeps contamination out of your bearings and lubrication in. Designed to fit
within the specifications of your equipment, the VB45-PB Bearing Isolator’s unique technology solves the problem of angular
misalignment by aligning precisely to the shaft and not to the housing. Designed for use on both oil and grease lubed
equipment, the VB45-PB Bearing Isolator is your single solution to providing increased pillow block reliability.

The Inpro/Seal VB45-PB Bearing Isolator is available in two different installation methods, O-Ring Mount and Pin Mount, to

VB45-PB Bearing Isolator Pin Mount

Installation Instructions
1. Remove the pillow block top and bearing assembly. Remove the LER rings and
set aside.

2. Line the inside of the LER grooves on the bottom portion of the pillow block
with the supplied RTV [fig. 1]. fig. 1

3. Apply the supplied P-80® lube to the shaft and O-rings of the VB45-PB Bearing
Isolator [fig. 2]. Slide the seal onto the shaft with the rotors facing out.

4. With the shaft assembly suspended over the pillow block bottom, line up the
male tangs with the LER grooves [fig. 3]. Also line up the anti-rotation pin to the
hole in the top cover with the expulsion port at the 6:00 position. You may have
to drill holes to accept the 1/8” dowel pin [fig. 4]. Each application varies. fig. 2
5. Lower the assembly with male tangs into the LER grooves in the pillow block
bottom portion [fig. 5].

6. Line the inside of the LER grooves on the top portion of the pillow block with the
supplied RTV, making sure not to cover the holes for the anti-rotation pin [fig. 6].

7. Assemble the top portion to the bottom portion carefully to accept anti-rotation
pins. Tighten bolts. fig. 3

8. Individual applications necessitate variations on this procedure. If you have any

questions, please contact your Inpro/Seal® Representative.

Note: For grease lubed pillow blocks, excessive greasing or purging is not required.
We recommend installing a relief plug to maintain proper grease levels.

VB45-PB Bearing Isolator O-Ring Mount

Installation Instructions
1. Remove the pillow block top and bearing assembly. Remove the LER rings and
set aside.

2. Apply the supplied P-80® lube to the shaft and O-rings of the VB45-PB Bearing
Isolator [fig. 1]. Slide the seal onto the shaft with the rotors facing out [fig. 2]. fig. 1

3. With the shaft assembly suspended over the pillow block bottom, line up the
male tangs with the LER grooves [fig. 3]. Apply P-80 lube to the O-rings on the
male tang with the expulsion port at the 6:00 position [fig. 4].

4. Lower the assembly with male tang into the LER grooves in the pillow block
bottom portion [fig. 5].

into the LER groove. Tighten bolts.
