ELECTROMAGNETIC BRAKE TYPE IPC FOR HEAVY DUTY STEEL MILL DUTY
EOT CRANES, CONVEYORS, WAGON TIPPLERS AND HAULAGES ETC.,
ELEKTROMAG the pioneers of the Indian crane control gear industry with experience of more
than 50 years present you our most comprehensive and r gged range of ELEKTRO
MAGNETIC BRAKES “TYPE – EMB AND IPB”.
Electro Magnetic brakes The brake is heavy duty designed to withstand the severe a d arduous
duty conditions demanded by heavy duty machinery required in the bulk material handling
industry,EOT cranes ,Hoists, etc. The braking torque is generated by compression spring and the
brake is released by the Solenoid. The Solenoid transmits useful torque to the brake shoe thereby
releasing the brake. When power supply is switch off, the brake applies instantaneously.
SHOES – The brake shoes are self aligning type and are fitted th best quality brake lining with
large cooling surface. The lining is designed for high temperature resistance thereby preventing
the shoes getting heated up. The linings normally consist of asbestos interwoven with brass wire.
Non-Asbestos (Asbestos-Free) lining can be supplied as optional at extra cost.
COMPRESSION SPRINGS – The compression springs are made of best quality sprin eel and
are properly heat treated to give correct hardness. The compression springs provide the
necessary working pressure to apply the brake when the power is switched off.The Solenoid
exerts a force against the spring pressure and releases the brake when the power is supplied to
the Solenoid.
BRAKE LEVER AND BASE - These components are manufactured from high quality fabricated
steel to withstand the heavy application demanded by the brake.
A.C.ELECTRO MAGNETIC SOLENOID Brakes are suitable for operation on 415 VAC, 2 Phase
50Hz. Any other AC voltage and frequency can be supplied on equest at extra cost. The AC
Electro Magnetic Solenoid consists of Core made of E and I lamination and coil wound with
Super Enamelled Copper Wire of B Class Insulation. The Brake is suitable for application in both
direction of rotation (forward and reverse). Coil with 50%CDF(Intermittent) rating are suitable for
120 switching op/hour and 100%CDF(Continuous)rated coils are suitable for 240 switching
op/hour. Intermittent duty coils are meant to be in circuit fo 5 Minutes ON and followed by 10
Minutes Off (out of 15 Minutes Cycle)
HAND RELEASE LEVER – A lever for manual release of the brake in case of power failure is
prodvided to release Brake manually. The coil is normally desgned for 220VDC, but through a
Rectifier-Cum-Resistor Panel, the Inrush Voltage is boosted to 300VDC for quick release of Brake
and thereafter the Voltage is brought down to 150VDC(Holding Voltage) thus ensuring cooler and
long lasting coil. Other operating coil voltages such as 12, 24,36,48, 110VDC, etc can be supplied
at extra cost.
BRAKE SELECTION PROCEDURE - The braking torque is derived by the below mentioned
formulae and then match with the braking torque given he chart.
Braking Torque in KGM = HPX 71620 OR KW X 975
RPM X 100 RPM
Note: For Hoisting / Winch application Safety factor of 50% should be added to the braking torque.
LIMIT SWITH - ALL BRAKES CAN BE SUPPLIED WITH LIMIT SWITCH , AT EXTRA COST , TO INDICATE
BRAKE SHOES ARE COMPLETELY OPENED AND TO INTERLOCK WITH THE MAIN DRIVE MOTOR SO THAT
THE MAIN MOTOR STARTS ONLY WHEN THE BRAKE SHOES ARE COMPLETELY OPENED.ALL WIRING AND
INTERLOCKING SHOULD BE DONE BY CUSTOMER AT SITE.
