Introduction
The SQ-300i Operator Interface is an optional component of the SQ-300i control system. For
this reason, the Operator Interface is shipped in a separate package, instead of shipping with the
SQ-300i Microcontroller and SCR Firing Assembly.

The purpose of this manual is to provide general information and specific instructions on how to
install the SQ-300i Operator Interface. For configuration, network specifications and software
installation instructions please refer to the SQ-300i Automatic Voltage Control Operation Manual
(document number 8700700-M).

SQ-300i Operator Interface Features

Communication between the SQ-300i and the operator may occur at the optional Operator
® ®
Interface. This unit runs Microsoft Windows XP (SP2) Embedded operating system, and a
proprietary software application that allows one interface to manage and display the operation of
one or more SQ-300i Microcontrollers.

B&W PGG’s touch-screen Operator Interface component offers a large, color display, with ample
room for displaying data, trending, waveforms and the navigation controls necessary to view and
edit all of the required settings for the SQ-300i. The Operator Interface has a 12-inch display that
provides 800 x 600 resolution. This panel is generally mounted in a cutout on the outside of the
electrical cabinet door. If B&W PGG has installed the Operator Interface on the AVC cabinet, no
further installation/wiring is required.

If the Operator Interface does not ship as part of an AVC cabinet, it will be shipped with an
optional power supply. This power supply is required to energize the display.

Installing the SQ-300i Operator Interface
Overview

SQ-300i Operator Interface installation is typically performed by trained B&W PGG Field Service
Technicians. However, in some cases, the plant may choose to install the SQ-300i Operator
Interface. This manual will provide instructions on how to install the SQ-300i Operator Interface.
If you have questions concerning the installation, please contact your B&W PGG representative.

Before installing the SQ-300i Operator Interface:

• Refer to the safety notices located in the front of this manual.

• Consult with your company’s IT or Network Administration Department before making
any modifications to the corporate network or ordering any parts to connect to the
network.

The SQ-300i is fully capable of communicating with a remote or local device, or operating in a
communications network through a standard Ethernet connection using Modbus  TCP/IP
(Ethernet) communication.

Operator Interface Installation Requirements

Location Requirements
The SQ-300i Operator Interface is intended for indoor use primarily to provide a degree of
protection against contact with its enclosed circuitry and against a limited amount of falling dirt.
The Operator Interface is typically mounted in a cutout on the outside of the electrical cabinet
door.

Communication Requirements
The Operator Interface will be connected using Ethernet cabling, switches and/or routers
appropriate for the environment. The recommended cable is a high-quality Category 6 Ethernet
cable (Belkin A7L714-1000-P bulk, or equivalent). The recommended switch parts are the N-
Tron 508TX 8-port, 516TX 16-port (DIN-rail or backplane mount) or 524TX 24-port (rack-mount)
industrial-grade switches. Please consult your local IT department for plant specific network
wiring requirements.

The Operator Interface is shipped with the following default IP address:

IP address: 192.168.1.254
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Power and Environmental Requirements

For Power and Environmental requirements, please refer to the Specifications section of this
manual.

Installing the Operator Interface

Parts/Tools Required
Before you begin, check to make sure you have the proper parts and tools.

Parts
Qty Description
1 Operator Interface
1 Operator Interface power supply
1 Inner Bezel*
1 Outer Bezel*
1 Green power connector
6 Mounting anchors
6 1 ¼“ mounting anchor screws
Tools
Qty Description
1 Phillips-head screwdriver
1 Small flat-head screwdriver

* The bezels will be required only if you are replacing the 8700700-001B Operator Interface. The
cabinet cutout that was made for that operator interface is too large for this model (8700700-
001C) to fit securely.

Mounting Procedure (New installation)

As discussed previously, the best location for the Operator Interface is in a cutout on the outside
of the electrical cabinet door.

1. Install the green power connector to the bottom of the operator interface.
a. Slide the male end of the connector into the green power input receptacle on the
Operator Interface.
b. Tighten the two captive screws to secure the adapter.

2. Using the mounting cutout provided (7993411), follow these steps:

a. Make sure that you have enough room for the cutout and for the required front and rear
clearances (noted on the template).
b. Cut a 12.280” (W) x 9.820” (H) opening in the cabinet door to mount the Operator
Interface.

3. Mount the Operator Interface as follows:

a. Slide the Operator Interface (back-first) into the opening from the outside. (Maintain a
secure hold on the front of the Operator Interface, or have someone else hold the
Operator Interface in place before proceeding.)

b. Working from the back of the Operator Interface, install and secure each of the six
mounting anchors as follows:
(1) Partially thread one of the 1¼” screws provided into each of the mounting anchors.
(This will make it easier to install and secure the anchors.) Refer to Figure 1.

Figure 1

(2) Starting with one of the anchors on the top of the interface, slide the anchor into the
slots as shown in Figure 2. Then rotate the anchor back toward you until the anchor
is in position and the head of the screw is perpendicular to the back of the interface.
(3) Hold the anchor in place and tighten the screw securely to the metal cabinet facing.
(4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 to install the next anchor on the top of the interface.
(5) Repeat steps 2 and 3 to install the remaining four anchors on the sides of the
interface.

Mounting Procedure (Replacement for 8700700-001B)
As discussed previously, the best location for the Operator Interface is in a cutout on the outside
of the electrical cabinet door. For this installation, you will need to use the supplied bezels.

1. Remove the protective covering from the front side of the outer bezel.

2. Install the green power connector to the bottom of the Operator Interface.
a. Slide the male end of the connector into the green power input receptacle on the
Operator Interface.
b. Tighten the two captive screws to secure the adapter.

3. Refer to Figure 3 and mount the Operator Interface as follows:

a. Slide the outer bezel (the piece with rounded corners) onto the back of the Operator
Interface.
b. Slide the Operator Interface and bezel (back-first) into the cabinet (panel) opening from
the outside. (Have someone else hold the Operator Interface in place before
proceeding.)

Figure 3

c. Working from the back of the Operator Interface, slide the inner bezel (the piece with the
square corners) onto the back of the Operator Interface.
d. Again working from the back of the Operator Interface, install and secure each of the six
mounting anchors as follows:
i. Partially thread one of the 1¼” screws provided into each of the mounting
anchors. (This will make it easier to install and secure the anchors.) Refer to
Figure 1.
ii. Starting with one of the anchors on the top of the interface, slide the anchor into
the slots as shown in Figure 2. Then rotate the anchor back toward you until the
anchor is in position and the head of the screw is perpendicular to the back of the
interface.

iii. Hold the anchor in place and tighten the screw securely to the metal cabinet
facing.
iv. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to install the next anchor on the top of the interface.
v. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to install the remaining four anchors on the sides of the
interface.

Connection Procedure
Once the Operator Interface has been mounted, refer to the installation drawings and follow the
procedure below to connect the interface to the power supply and the network.

• WARNING – Do not apply power until all installation and wiring

is complete!

1. Select the proper voltage range on the power supply.

2. Mount the power supply to a rail inside the cabinet.
3. Use customer-supplied wire (as specified) to run plant power to the power supply.
4. Use customer-supplied wire (as specified) to connect the power supply to the green power
connector on the Operator Interface. Refer to Figure 4.
