    CRITIQUE ON EQUATION OF A STRAIGHT LINE,


    EQUATION OF A CIRCLE

    Equation of a Straight Line, Equation of a Circle is a story written by Mar Anthony Simon
    Dela Cruz. From the title itself, one will be curious what is the story all about. The author of the
    story was graduated from the University of the Philippines-Diliman where he finished Bachelor of
    Arts in Arts Studies (Interdisciplinary), and Master of Arts in Filipino: Malikhaing Pagsulat. It is
    about the two kinds of equation which represent the two kinds of life of people. I read this story
    during our 21st-Century Literature from the Philippines and the World class. You can either relate
    to the equation of a straight line or equation of a circle. You have to read the story for you to find
    out.

    The story is narrated at the first point of view. Butch, who is the main character took the
    exam that day. He remembered how his mother will scold him for not doing what she told him to
    do. But at least he enjoyed the end of exam day with his friends. But his exam does not go smoothly
    like he expected. It happened that he was not able to answer the equation of the straight line which
    he defined as plain and not colorful. Amazingly, he was able to answer the difficult equation which
    is the equation of the circle that for him is a good shape. Circle is a kind of shape that you can see
    as a whole. Like his life, he is wholeheartedly accepted by his friends as a gay especially his
    mother. Butch is a smart, loud, direct to the point, talkative, and also, he is a gay. The story is not
    a boring one although it is a long narrative since Butch narrated it well in a tone that many can
    engaged easily. The connection of the two equations are also interesting. The story has also a good
    timeline or series of events that made the story understandable by all. There has no unclear events
    that will make the reader mislead while reading.

    All in all, I thought that the book was really good. It is interesting since the author really
    worked on giving the story a good series of events and made the characters lively and not boring
    that made me invested in reading the text selection. The equation of the straight line and the
    equation of the circle has a good connection to the story of the main character. It is recommendable
    to other readers as it can give them the understanding about the people belonging the LGBT
    community.
