Most sizes afford easy placement by one man. Flexibility allows MULTI-FLEX® plugs to navigate through small hot tap
or branch pipe into large pipeline; then inflate with air or water.
Typically used for plugging of pipelines especially when there is a small-restricted access. This is the most flexible plug on the
market; it has the greatest multi-size range and will conform to almost any pipe configuration. A 36” plug will also stopper a 10”
pipeline! When completely deflated, a 72” plug will deflate down to only 15”! The very small-deflated diameter and flexibility
allows insertion and removal through a manhole for plugging otherwise inaccessible pipelines. It is also used as a semi-
permanent valve to isolate hazardous waste spills and regulate flow.
High Strength Flexible Materials Plugs are generally made with Nylon reinforced Nitrile outer ply and have connections for water or air inflation. Many other
materials available.
Multi-Size Applications PETERSEN® MULTI-FLEX® plugs may be used in any pipeline larger than the deflated diameter. Some seepage in smaller size
pipelines may require a specific size vapor sleeve especially when pressure testing.
Most Sizes Available Standard sizes are generally in stock up to a 48” diameter with larger sizes available in just a few days.
Light Weight Allows one person insertion for most sizes and applications.
Higher Head Pressure All inflation pressure is applied to the inside wall of the pipe through the MULTI-FLEX® plug. Molded rubber plugs require much of
the inflation pressure just to expand the plug.
Flexibility Deflated MULTI-FLEX® plug easily navigates bends and small openings. A 72” MULTI-FLEX® plug may be inserted through a 15"
opening!
Custom Configurations Custom Flexible and Rigid Plugs may be manufactured for any shape, high temperature, and severe chemical applications. Please
contact a Petersen engineer to discuss your requirements.

*Unless otherwise noted, pipe diameter assumes Schedule 40 steel pipe up through 10" and Standard Schedule with a
.375" wall over 10" nominal size.
Please specify inflation flange location: centered on diameter or centered on end.

By-Pass The by-pass design allows flow through during repairs. Flow-thru diameters available up to 3"
on standard MULTI-FLEX® plugs and larger sizes on custom configurations.
Multi-Size Applications PETERSEN® MULTI-FLEX® plugs may be used in any pipeline larger than the deflated diameter. Some seepage in smaller size
pipelines may require a specific size vapor sleeve especially when pressure testing.
Most Sizes Available Almost any size and configuration is available.
Light Weight PETERSEN® MULTI-FLEX® By-Pass plugs are much lighter than molded rubber plugs for easy placement.

Compact Plug Diameter Allows Insertion Through Small Hot (Live) Tap
Launch cylinder with inflation ram and packing seal allows insertion of PETERSEN® Plugs into pressurized pipeline.
Typically used for plugging of pipelines through a hot tap in the side of the pipe or through a valve on the end of a pipe. A variety of PETERSEN®
MULTI-FLEX® Plugs are available for most chemical, pressure, and temperature requirements. A 36” plug as an example may be installed through
a 10" tap with the pipeline pressurized.

These hot tap sleeves are fast and easy to install with simple hand tools, require no caulking or special equipment and may be used with any
standard tapping valve. The sleeve design directly reinforces without shims or pads and weighs less than heavy cast iron sleeves. The self-
energizing gasket will not roll or bind on installation and the seal increases with line pressure. The generous cross section of the sleeve assures a
good seal even on rough or pitted pipe. These hot tap sleeves consist of two sections of heavy welded steel that bolt together on the pipe and seal
against a concave wedge gasket around the tap opening. The outlet half has a recessed flat faced flange to mate with standard tapping valves per
MSS SP60 up through 12" size-on-size. For tap sizes 14" and above, flanges can be furnished to accommodate the valve requirements. The outlet
half also has a 3/4" npt test plug.
Material Specifications: Body is made of carbon steel, Flanges of AWWA C207 Class D, ANSI 150 lb. drilling, Gasket is Nitrile, Bolts, nuts, and
washers are of a high strength low alloy steel with heavy semi-finished hexagon nuts, and the Finish is fusion bonded Fexi-Coat epoxy, coated to an
average of 12 mil thickness.

Multi-size rubber plugs for testing residential and commercial plumbing systems
The 8", 10", and 12" single-size plugs are ideal for the testing and maintenance of sanitary or storm sewer pipes. These plugs have a removable 3/16" eyebolt and a
threaded 1/4" tire inflation valve that can easily be replaced or exchanged with a quick disconnect or any threaded 1/4" fitting. Can be used for head pressure
testing or as a back plug for air testing. Where 1/4” and 1/2” port are included, the 1/4” port has a tire valve and the 1/2” port is blocked.
Multi-Size Test Plugs
Based on the single-size test plug design, one multi-size test plug works in up to three different pipe sizes - saving time, money, and shelf/truck space. Easily fits
closet bends, sanitary tees, and floor drains. These plugs are ideal for both blocking sewer flow and for use as a back plug in low-pressure air tests.
Both the single and multi-size test plugs are made from long-lasting natural rubber with a molded rib design. These plugs are durable, tear-resistant, and works on
any type of pipe, including out-of-round pipe. Always block plugs when conducting air tests.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Slip the plug onto the end of the wrench engaging pin "A" into the slot at the end of the wrench.
2. Turn the pin "A" into notch "B". This will hold the plug onto the end of the wrench.
3. Turn the wrench handle "F" clockwise with one hand while holding the wrench at "G" with the other until pin "D" on the wrench drops into
the hole "E" in the Expander plug nut.
4. Insert the plug into the fitting or pipe.
5. Hold the wrench at "G" and turn the handle "F" clockwise to expand the plug.
To remove the wrench just push in on the wrench and turn clockwise enough to let pin "A" out of notch "B" and out the slot at the end of the
wrench.
REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Slip notch in end of wrench over pin "A" and turn wrench right engaging pin "A" into notch at "C."
2. Hold the wrench at "G" with one hand and turn the wrench handle "F" counter clockwise to release the plug.
3. Remove the plug with the wrench.
Only hand tighten the plug to prevent damage to the wrench or plug. In expanding the plug, don't use any extra leverage on the wrench handle "F"
as it is not necessary to tighten the plug any tighter than the ordinary man can pull on handle "F." Any extra leverage would tend to damage the
wrench or the plug.

EZ-Swet By-Pass Plugs are built with a 1/2" cavity down the center of the tool to allow water or air to drain from the system while the repair
is in progress. They are made from the same "professional grade" materials as the EZ-Swet and have a hose connection attached to the end
of the hollow handle. This connection allows you to attach a garden hose to the end of the tool which directs the draining water to a floor
sink or gutter while you continue the repair. Another feature of this plug is not only can water be drained, but in instances of working on
pools or similar projects, an air supply at a maximum of 60 lbs. can be added through the plug into the plumbing system for pressure
testing. These plugs are cleaner, more controllable, multi functional, and effect a quicker repair on any system. These by-pass plugs are not
made for line testing as there may be slight seepage past the tightening stem.
Maximum 60 psig water pressure. Open valve and let water run to reduce pressure if necessary.

Steam, sniff, purge, weld and test - all with the same plug
The new and approved "High Lift" seal design permits greater seal to pipe clearance and higher seal
expansion. This means the plug will easily pass over weld penetration. Grinding out deep root
penetrations is eliminated.
This plug will reduce the expense, downtime delays, and waste disposal problems associated with
conventional flange-to-pipe weld testing. Our High Lift Flange Weld Test Plug lets you monitor
downstream conditions, isolate and purge the weld area, perform the weld, and hydro test weld joint
to ANSI B16.5 requirements using only one tool. No blind flanging upstream, no vacuum truck for
evacuating the line, and no X-raying. Just a simple, rock-solid tool that saves time and money every
time you use it. Each test requires a minimum amount of water and there's no need to fill the entire
line. You'll use less water and minimize your environmental liabilities.
● Fast, easy installation, and testing.
● Segmented compression tube allows adjustment of seal installation depth.
● Faster pipe repairs and retrofits.
● Improved Seal-to-Pipe Clearance: Plug can be easily installed and removed, even where there is severe weld protrusion.
● Low water requirements resulting in less waste water.
● A minimum of 1.5:1 safety factor.
● Rugged, heavy-duty construction.
● Versatile: Seal and washer sets easily change to accommodate different pipe schedules.
● Ported Center Shaft: Permits monitoring of downstream pressure of inert gas rejection.
● Flange classes 150 - 600 lbs.
● Seal Materials: Urethane Standard.
● Flange style is Raised Face type.
● Test plugs do not include flange gaskets or nuts & bolts.

25% higher lift capacity than a conventional lift bag of the same size
The series 161-5 high pressure heavy lifting air bags have up to 25% higher lift
capacity than a conventional lift bag of the same size. This is due to the 25% higher
inflation pressure, i.e. 145 PSI as compared to the conventional 116 PSI. In addition,
they are lighter in weight and have a lower profile with an insertion height of only
0.9”. The special rib design on the surface ensures perfect interlocking when
stacking two lift bags. Each air bag has a minimum safety factor of 4 with a burst
pressure of 580 PSI or more. They are compatible with and can be used with
conventional 116 PSI inflation control systems. 5 year limited warranty. Made of
Aramid reinforced rubber compound. Operating Temperature: -40°F to 130°F
Left - Each bag is supplied with two nipples. The bottom one is a 1/4" safety nipple (with two
ribs) and can only be used with a safety coupler which reduces the risk of possible injury or
damage due to accidental air line disconnect. The top one is a 1/4" standard industrial
interchange (SAE) nipple. Lower right in this photo is the 1/4 BSP threaded male stem which is
also removable in case of thread damage.

The pneumatic high pressure flat form heavy lifting air bags are reinforced with Kevlar® cord for
heavy duty, low profile heavy lifting, emergency rescue, HAZMAT management or industrial use.
The Flat Form design bags eliminate the need for complicated height/weight computation
graphs and uncertain lifting height calculations. Simply stated, a 34.1 ton bag will lift 34.1 tons to
the specified height (see table). Flat Form bags safely link together when stacked, eliminating
slipping or violent ejection. Maximum of three bags can be safely stacked. Flat Form bags retain
their flat profile, eliminating rolling and shifting. Heavy duty design and Kevlar® reinforcing
insure long life.

Field Verification:
Fin Style Deflection Gauges are designed to be field verified by inspectors without the
use of a proving ring. Simply place two fins end to end as pictured to the right and
measure the width.
Add one inch to the mandrel and you have the outside dimension of the gauge. Using
this method simplifies the inspector's job of verifying sizes on deflection gauges.

These manhole vacuum testers provide the most efficient, accurate, and cost-effective method of testing new, existing, and rehabilitated
manholes, per ASTM C 1244.
Vacuum testing identifies infiltration and exfiltration problems by creating a vacuum in a manhole and then monitoring a gauge for vacuum loss.
Less expensive and faster than water testing, the manhole testers' remote-inflation and monitoring system keeps users away from the danger
zone. Can be used in manholes as deep as 40' if desired.

These Safety Gags clamp to the outside diameter of standard pipe sizes for use with mechanical test plugs. They are
made with painted carbon steel with plated chain.
Installation Procedure:
Warning: These are general instructions only. Please refer to the appropriate operating procedures for the test plug
being utilized. The 147 Series Test Plugs are designed to be self-sealing and self-gripping, which facilitate both the seal
and the gripper to become tighter as pressure increases. The extra squeeze of the seal and gripper caused by the test
pressure can be detected as minor movement of the shaft. Installing the Safety Gag with a tight chain may limit or
prevent the small movement of the test plug shaft as pressure is increasing, and subsequently limit or prevent the self-
sealing and self-gripping feature of our test plugs. The amount of slack in the chain as well as the position of the installed
plug should be observed from a safe distance to insure no appreciable movement of the plug has occurred. Should
movement be noted, the test should be stopped and all pressure released immediately.
1. Install Safety Gag pipe clamp onto pipe being tested. Safety gags are to be installed with some slack so that
movement of the shaft is not prohibited as pressure increases during testing.
2. Tighten bolts to insure slippage will not occur.
3. Insert test plug into tube or pipe. Follow appropriate operating procedures for the plugs being utilized, and
install plugs per recommended torque values using a calibrated torque wrench.
4. Prior to pressurizing the system, slip the link over the shaft end. Safety gags 8" and larger are equipped with two
chain and link assemblies. The links are stamped with the shaft sizes they can accommodate. Each link can do at
least two sizes of shafts. Insure you have the appropriate link set-up before using. Unscrew the chain connector
and switch the link around if necessary.
5. Continue with appropriate operating procedures.
