Job Title : Senior General Worker

Purpose of the Job


To carry out general cleaning of offices and surrounding grounds according to required
standard of cleanliness in order to create an hygienic and relaxing environment for staff and
visitors thus contribute to promoting an inviting image of organization..

Principal Job Accountabilities (Key Outputs)

Output 1: Cleaned Offices


Definition: Designated office areas are cleaned according to the required standards
and other facilities are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.

Output 2: Secured Offices


Definition: Unlocked offices are secured before and after cleaning in line with
established security procedures

Output 3: Clean Surroundings


Definition: Gardens and grounds are kept neat and tidy according to required
standards and surroundings presents an appealing working environment.

Output 4: Controlled Cleaning Materials


Definition: Usage of cleaning materials monitored and adequately available for the job
in hand

Output 5: Maintained Tools


Definition: Cleaning equipment kept in secured clean and hygienic conditions and are
good working order

Job Specifications

Education
Grade nine (9) certificates with basic knowledge of cleaning and gardening practices.
Basic understanding of health and safety requirements.
Experience
Less than six (6) months of skilled work in general cleaning of offices and surroundings
of buildings, car ports, raising and caring for perennial and flowering plants and shrubs in
a controlled environment.

Interpersonal Skills
Job comes into contact with staff within the immediate work area in the organization. The
most significant contacts are owner of offices being cleaned. Customer services
awareness and the ability to focus on the necessity to provide a high quality service at all
times requires being firm, polite, and courteous.

Work Complexity
Deals with highly repetitive work and well defined with little variation. Tasks involve,
cleaning, tidying the workspace, and moving or storing materials. Works under time constraints
as a set length of time is allocated each day to complete tasks. As the tasks are focused and
specific, only a basic understanding of related work activities is required

Decision making
Makes routine decisions within job requirements and receives very close guidance and
supervision, and has little choice of action. Decide which office take priority for cleaning and
when to refer issues to the Supervisor.

Responsibility for work of others


There is no supervision of staff

Job impact
Job contributes to the health and wellbeing of staff and visitors often as part of a team
engaged in similar activities. Generally impact is experienced within work area, and outside
the organization. Mistakes or errors can result in health hazards to staff, poorly cleaned
offices and surroundings can result to negative impression of the public on the organisation
image. Close guidance and supervision is provided and the consequences of errors or
mistakes are usually detected by supervisor.

Working conditions
This job involves undertaking duties which involves health, safety and wellbeing considerations:
Repetitive limb movements (eg mopping, vacuuming, etc). The demands of the job may
regularly result in fatigue, requiring periods of rest. There is likelihood of minor illnesses
resulting from health hazards in the job.
