5. Most people assume that life in the rat race is bad for your health. But reversing the traditional gender roles, being a
house husband is a stressful business, according to the latest research by American scientists. By giving up their
jobs in order to become house husbands, men increase their risk of heart attack or coronary disease by as much as
82%.
According to Dr Elaine Eaker, the key to the problem is that some men became stressed about performing a role
not traditionally assign to them by society. Men who stay at home tend not to have the same levels of support from
friends and family as women do the same.
Jack O’Sullivan, of the Father’s Direct group, was quoted as saying: “Society expects the main career should be
a woman and society is structured around that. Day care is called mother and toddler groups and some men feel
awkward about belonging to those groups.
Professor Gary Cooper, a psychologist at the University of Manchester, said many men tend to underestimate
the task of caring for a family. He said “Most men think being a house husband involves putting on a bit of washing,
taking the kids to school and then putting their feet up with a cup of coffee.
They are crazy. Most men are not used to performing a variety of activities simultaneously (the kind of multi-
tasking which is second nature to most women).”
It is estimated that men have taken over the main homemaker’s role in one in seven homes, as increasing
numbers of women become the main breadwinner. The study also found that women in high-powered jobs were more
likely to develop heart disease than those in more junior positions.

20. (Reuters Health) – Half of all heart patients made at least one medication-related mistake after leaving the hospital,
and guidance from a pharmacist didn’t seem to reduce those errors, in a new study.
Consequences of mistakes – such as forgetting to take certain drugs or taking the wrong dose can range from
side effects like constipation to more serious drops in blood pressure. Two percent of errors were life-threatening.
Hospitals involved in the study were already taking steps to prevent medication mistakes in addition to the extra
pharmacist intervention, said Dr. Sunil Kripalani, the study’s lead author from the Vanderbilt University Medical
Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
“We were surprised to see that in spite of these efforts that 50 percent (of patients) were still having these
medication errors,” he told Reuters Health.
Although the pharmacist visits didn’t help the average patient, he added, certain ones seemed to benefit – such
as patients who were on multiple drugs or had trouble understanding health information. As for traditionally lower-
risk patients, he said other strategies to prevent errors may be needed.

35. The first mobile phone networks were created in the late 1970s in Japan. A cellphone combines technologies,
mainly telephone, radio, and computer. Cell phones work as two-way radios. They send electromagnetic microwaves
from base station to base station. The waves are sent through antennas. This is called wireless communication.
There are different kinds of phones. A flip phone flips open, and is best for calling. A bar phone is shaped like
a candy bar, and the keys and screen are on one face. A slate phone is a phone that has almost no buttons, and uses
a touchscreen. Most smartphones are slates. A slider phone slides on rails. It can slide out number keys or a mini
keyboard, but some do both. A swivel spins on an axle.
Many 21st century mobile phones are smartphones. These phones can be used for email, browsing the
internet, playing music and games, and many other functions that computers can perform. This is because mobile
phones basically are small computers. Older phones also used computer technology, but lacked many of the parts of
a computer that were too big to fit into a phone. Modern phone makers have been able to use smaller parts. Most
smartphones are also GPS receivers and digital cameras.

What does the passage mainly discuss?

A. The history of mobile phone

B. The function of mobile phone

C. The side effects of mobile phone

D. The development of mobile phone
