Economics

The documentary focuses on water scarcity in Masbate, where residents dig wells by hand to access dirty and sometimes salt water due to a lack of permanent water sources. Locals drink and use this contaminated water despite health risks like diarrhea. Proposed solutions include improving sanitation to address pollution and monitoring water quality, as well as upgrading sewage systems. As president, budgeting for improved water infrastructure could help through conservation, desalination, and smart irrigation. Ordinary citizens could donate to clean water initiatives around the world.

Plot:

The documentary is all about water scarcity in Masbate. They don’t have permanent
water sources that is why the people featured in the said documentary was digging up
wells with their bare hands to get some water from the Earth. The water that comes from
the well is dirty, and sometimes, a salt water that is why the residents there is often
having a diarrhea. Even though the water is dirty, they are still drinking it to quench their
thirst. They are even using water that came from the well to mix with the baby’s milk
formula.

1. What is the main economic problem discussed in the documentary?

- The main economic problem that was discussed in the documentary “Paraisong
Uhaw” is water scarcity.
2. Based on the documentary, what is/are the proposed solution/s to the economic
problems?
- The proposed solution on the documentary is that the people who lived in that area
digs up the wells with their bare hands. When they think that the deepness is already
fine, they will wait for sunrise, so that the well will be filled with water.
3. Based on your idea, what is/are your proposed solution to the economic problem?
- Pollution control and better sewage system. Without proper sanitation, water
becomes full of dirt and diseases and it will be unsafe to drink. We need to address
pollution, measuring and monitoring water quality is necessary. Also, improving the
sewage system in specific areas, just like the said place in the documentary is
another way to prevent water scarcity from becoming any worse.
4. If you were the president of the country, how can you help the people featured in the
documentary?
- I will set a budget for improving water infrastructure in the country. Water
conservation and efficiency are key components of sustainable water management.
Solar desalination and smart irrigation systems are examples of clean technology for
water efficiency control.
5. If you were an ordinary businessman, how can you help the people featured in the
documentary?
- I will support clean water initiatives which are located all around the world who are
looking to bring clean water to areas that don’t have it. Donating time, skills, and
finances is a big help to those who are in need.
