roughly 3.23 billion gross , plus 0.72 billion overseas, giving a gross worldwide total of roughly 4
billion.
India
3 Idiots broke all box office records upon release. In its four-day first weekend, the film netted 380
million, and broke the record held byGhajini for the first weekend collections. By the first week, the film
netted 790.5 million, again breaking the box office record held byGhajini. At the end of its theatrical run
in India, it broke all box office records for Indian box office collections, and is the first Bollywood film to
cross the 2 billion mark in India itself. Currently, it is the highest-grossing Bollywood film according to
net collections, earning 2.024 billion (US$ 44,720,996).
Overseas
3 Idiots is the second highest-grossing Indian film in overseas markets after My Name is Khan.[10] It set
record collections in territories such as USA, Australia, Fiji and some African territories, but performed
comparatively underwhelmingly in the UK. In the United States, the film earned $6.5 million since its
opening.[3][11] Overall, it is currently the second highest-grossing film in overseas markets. It has collected
US$ 15.50 million (INR 72 crores) since its opening.[10]
Critical reception
3 Idiots received generally positive reviews. Subhash K. Jha (film critic and author of The Essential Guide
to Bollywood) states: "It's not that 3 Idiots is a flawless work of art. But it is a vital, inspiring and life-
revising work of contemporary art with some heart imbued into every part. In a country where students
are driven to suicide by their impossible curriculum, 3 Idiots provides hope. Maybe cinema can't save
lives. But cinema, sure as hell, can make you feel life is worth living. 3 Idiots does just that, and much
more. The director takes the definition of entertainment into directions of social comment without
assuming that he knows best."[12] Nikhat Kazmi of the Times of India gave it four and a half stars and
suggests that, "The film is a laugh riot, despite being high on fundas [...] Hirani carries forward his
simplistic `humanism alone works' philosophy of the Lage Raho Munna Bhai series in 3 Idiots too, making
it a warm and vivacious signature tune to 2009. The second half of the film does falter in parts, specially
the child birth sequence, but it doesn't take long for the film to jump back on track." [13]Mayank Shekhar of
the Hindustan Times gave the film three and a half out of four stars and comments that "this is the sort of
movie you’ll take home with a smile and a song on your lips." [14] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood
Hungama gave 3 Idiots four and a half out of five stars and states: "On the whole, 3 Idiots easily ranks
amongst Aamir, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's finest films. Do yourself and your family a
favour: Watch 3 Idiots. It's emotional, it's entertaining, it's enlightening. The film has tremendous youth
appeal and feel-good factor to work in a big way." [15] Kaveree Bamzai of India Today gave 3 Idiots five
stars and argues that "it's a lovely story, of a man from nowhere who wanted to learn, told like a fairy tale,
with the secret heart carrying its coded message of setting all of us free." [16]
Other critics gave the film a mixed review. Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN gave the film three out of five
stars and states: "Going home after watching 3 Idiots I felt like I'd just been to my favorite restaurant only
to be a tad under-whelmed by their signature dish. It was a satisfying meal, don't get me wrong, but not
the best meal I'd been expecting." [17] Raja Sen of Rediff gave the film two out of five stars and states:
"Rajkumar Hirani's one of the directors of the decade, a man with immense talent and a knack for
storytelling. On his debut, he hit a hundred. With his second, he hit a triple century. This time, he fishes
outside the offstump, tries to play shots borrowed from other batters, and hits and misses to provide a
patchy, 32*-type innings. It's okay, boss, *chalta hai*. Even Sachin has an off day, and we still have great
hope." [18]This film is going to be remade in both Telugu and Tamil. [19]

Chetan gave me this book to read and I wanted to make a film on it. But I knew right from the
start that I could not make a film completely on the book, as it was very anecdotal and a film
needs a plot. So I had decided to rewrite it in a screenplay format. You'll see that the film is very
different from the book. After I wrote the script, I called Chetan and narrated it to him. I told him
that if he did not like the script, I would stop the project. But he was okay with it. [24]
Initially I did sit down with Raju and Abhijat while they were deciding to make a film based on '5
Point Someone'. I even went to IIT with Abhijat a couple of times. But it was just not possible for
me to be involved at every stage of the screenplay writing process since I was in Hong Kong at
that time, working full time and busy writing other books. Moreover, Abhijat is based in USA, Raju
was in the US for quite a while working on the screenplay but it was not practical for me to do that
[...] The film retains the soul of the book. 3 Idiots is different from the book but at the same time it
does borrow many things from the book. The core theme and message of the film is coming from
the book itself. And that's why the makers have officially credited the film as 'Based on a novel by
Chetan Bhagat.'[25]
A controversy developed a few days after the release, however, over the fact that Chetan's
credit, "Based on the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat" appeared in the closing
credits rather than in the opening ones.[26] At that time, Bhagat stated that he "was expecting
an opening credit and I was quite surprised on not seeing it. They had bought the rights, made
the payment and committed to a credit in the contract. It’s there, but it’s not about it being
there, it’s about the placement and the prominence." [27] In a 31 December 2009 blog post on
his personal website, Bhagat stated that he was told the movie was only 2-5% based on the
book, but when he saw it, he felt that it was 70% of the book. He also argued that he was
misled by the makers of the film, though he noted, that "this has nothing to do with Mr. Aamir
Khan[...] I am a big fan of Aamir and he has made my story reach people. However, he was
told by the makers not to read the book, and he hasn’t. Thus, he cannot comment on the issue
in a meaningful manner." [28]
A few people responded to Chetan's statements. According to the Indo-Asian News
Service (IANS), during a press conference with reporters producer Vidhu Vinod
Chopra "clarified that in the agreement between the producer and Bhagat, it was clearly
mentioned that the author’s name would be put in the closing credits." IANS also reported that
Chopra "lost his cool" and "asked a reporter to shut up after being questioned whether his hit 3
Idiots was lifted from author Chetan Bhagat’s book Five Point Someone."[29] Chopra later
apologized, stating: "I really think I’m silly. I was provoked, but I shouldn’t have done this. I saw
myself on TV and saw how I was shouting ‘shut up, shut up’ like an animal. I told myself —
‘what nonsensical behaviour’."[30] Aamir Khan also responded to these claims.[26][31]Rajkumar
Hirani stated that "We have officially bought the rights for the film. We drew a contract with him
and it clearly mentions about the position of his credit. With open eyes he had seen the
contract, consulted his lawyer and signed the agreement [...] In the contract, we have said that
the title would be given in the rolling credits. We haven't changed the font size. We haven't
increased the speed of the title. It's exactly there where it was agreed to be." [32] Chetan Bhagat
later apologized stating, "I definitely do not have anything against team 3 Idiots. I may have
some issues on the mistake they may have made but nothing about their personality or the
kind of people they are. I apologise to their families if there was any distress caused to them. I
also want to thank all my fans, who stood by me but I don't want them to turn against anyone
especially Aamir."[33]
NEW DELHI: After the success of Aamir Khan starrer '3 Idiots', it is time for the 'The 4th Idiot'.
But make no mistake as this is not the sequel to the blockbuster but an animated film inspired from it.
Produced and directed by Biswaroop Roy Chowdhry , 'The 4th Idiot' takes forward the story of the
blockbuster film in animated form and will release on May 9.
"Phunsuk Wangdu (character played by Aamir Khan in 3 'Idiots') is now the principal of the school, movie
shows what the institution would be like," said Chowdhry.
'The 4th Idiot' is the story of a boy, Pappu, who by using the techniques taught by Aamir's character in '3
Idiots' achieves otherwise unachievable goals.
Pappu achieves 1st position in his school, gets the love of his life and even makes it to the moon.
'The 4th Idiot' also retains the Chatur Ramalingam (Omi Vaidya) of '3 Idiots', who has done the narration
for the animation flick.
Vaidya will also be singing a section of a song 'Kar Bheje Ka Istemaal' (Use Your Brain). The other song
in the movie is 'Har Taraf Se Hai Pressure' (There Is Pressure From Every Side).
"There are two songs in the film. One is 'Har Taraf Se Hai Pressure', which is about the problems faced
by the children. The second song is 'Kar Bheje Ka Istemaal', which is about the solution. A section of the
second song is sung by Omi Vaidya," said Chowdhry.
"This film is definitely inspired by '3 Idiots'. The awareness which was created by the '3 Idiots', we have
attempted to take it forward. The film is to tell the children that anything can be solved and achieved using
your brain," he said.
INTRODUCTION
The movie '3 Idiots' is totally focused on the current education system and its drawbacks. It
has covered the situation of all the participants practically involved in the education system
in India i.e. students, colleges, faculties and parents. Thus, this movie is a lesson to all the
above parties, which I have analyzed after watching this movie.
Basically, this movie covers the pressure that the students of higher education are facing
because of high end expectation from their parents, colleges and faculties. One of the
important issues covered in this movie is student's suicide due to pressure and failure in
fulfilling the expectations. As such kind of incidents are not good for the society, country
and families.
India is a young country and youths are the trend setters for any nation. It is a matter of
concern for all of us and we must look into this issue seriously. This kind of incidents also
affects us directly or indirectly as we all are part of this system. Thus, we need to think and
bring some dynamic and revolutionary changes in the education system of the country. This
movie seems to me like a real life case study about Indian Higher Education System.
The movie enlightens the drawbacks of current education system. As it clearly shows that
how students of higher education are forced to perform best in their exams to achieve good
marks, which will get them a highly paid jobs in top most companies around the globe.
According to current system we teach our youngsters that Life is a race and to be successful
you have to run faster and leave others behind. In this race they start using shortcuts and
other means to get success just like the character "CHATUR" in the movie.
In this race, everybody in the system misses or skips the importance of knowledge and its
practical usability in life and work. The gist of this movie is that instead of running behind
degree and marks, we should focus on getting knowledge and developing skills through
knowledge. This will develop excellence in students and make them eligible to do their work
more effectively and efficiently.
The movie '3 Idiots' also teaches us some lessons which I have classified into following
categories
1. Lesson for Students
2. Lesson for Parents
3. Lesson for Faculty
4. Lesson for Colleges
b. They should understand the fact that there is no shortcut to success. The only road to
success is hard work and knowledge.
c. Don't be worried about the result while studying or doing any work. Just believe in your
work, as the result depends on your work but not on your worries.
d. While choosing your career, instead of running behind money and glamour, choose that
career which interests you more and for which you are more passionate.
e. Always share your thoughts and interests with you parents and try to convince them
positively. Do not create pressure on them by doing negative activities if they are not
convinced.
f. Study to gain knowledge not just to get a degree. If you will study to get degree you will
not get knowledge, but if you will study to gain knowledge you will also get degree along
with it.
g. Suicide is not the solution of any problem, but it is running away from the problem.
a. Parents should discuss with their children about their interests, aims and objectives.
b. They should not be forced to do what their parents want them to do, instead they should
be motivated to choose career of their interest.
c. Parents need to create a friendly environment at home, so that their children should be
able to share their ideas and thoughts anytime.
c. Try to develop innovation and creativity in students by discussing more and more about
cases, situations and concepts.
b. They also need to create healthy competition among students towards attaining
knowledge.
d. College administration should not force students to adapt system but they should be
motivated to do so.
3 Idiots happens to be the biggest grosser of all times in Bollywood. Sample this: the film has so far made Rs 335
crore (Rs 3.35 billion); overseas, it has grossed $16 million (Rs 71 crore).
Meanwhile, the budget for the film, which released in December 2009, was Rs 35 crore (Rs 350 million). The
investors have multiplied their money more than ten times.
Not surprising then that the film topped the 2009 Brand Derby. The makers attribute the film's success to its script.
What makes powerful brands stand apart from the others? Is it a combination of savvy marketing, brilliant advertising
and groundbreaking design?
At the Business Standard Brand Derby 2010 summit, some of the country's top marketers explored how branding is
evolving with the fast-changing consumer mindset. Brand-building is undergoing a tectonic shift in the changing
socio-economic milieu of the country; conventional tools will no longer work.
This was the central message of the Business Standard Brand Derby 2010 Summit held at the Leela Kempinski hotel
in Gurgaon on July 16. The Brand Derby, an annual survey, ranks the top brand launches in a year. In the 2010
Derby, 3 Idiots had won the Derby. The survey is published in The Strategist, a weekly supplement of Business
Standard.
Anil Arjun, the CEO of Reliance Mediaworks, which produced and distributed 3 Idiots, outlined how four months
prior to the launch of the film, a 40-member team was put in place to market the film.
There was clutter in the market -- 36 films, Hollywood as well as Bollywood releases, had also hit the theatres around
the same time. Also, the campaign had to be crafted in such a way that it appeals to all category of viewers -- those
who go to multiplexes in metros as well as those who watch films in a single-screen theatre in a small town.
The film was shown to all Reliance Mediaworks employees and all other stakeholders, weeks before the release on
December 24, to ensure that everybody spoke the same language and kept the communication consistent. It was
followed by a full 360-degree campaign.
Two weeks before the release, a huge splash was made online. A site called idiotsacademy.com was started to
engage the viewer. Aamir Khan, the star of the film, travelled to various parts of the country in disguise to create buzz
about the movie.
"To ensure that people come to the theatres to watch the film, we destroyed 2.1 million illegal downloads," Arjun said.
And to surprise the viewer when he came to the theatre, the character of Chatur Ramalingam was kept under wraps
right through the pre-release campaign. At the end, he proved as much a crowd-puller as Khan.
"I truly believe that it's the script of the film that's most important. 3 Idiots was an inspiring script and finally a well-
made film," says the film's producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Still, it takes more than that for a film to transform itself into
a brand.
Indeed, confidence in a product is a pre-requisite. But planning ahead was the key, and the makers of the film spent a
good four months doing just that. From that emerged consistent communication.
Here the 3 Idiots team gave equal importance to Tier-II cities, overseas markets, where full 360-degree campaigns
took off covering digital, outdoor, brand partnerships, public relations and merchandise.
The All Is Well-Reliance Life Insurance campaign broke across television channels, radio stations and hoardings
featuring the lead actors of the film. The ad used the proposition, 'Jab hai saath Reliance Life Insurance, All Is Well',
to convey its messages to the masses.
This first of its kind initiative covered 50 television channels and 19,000 spots in a matter of five weeks. On the
radio, it took up 11,000 spots over 50 channels covering 35 cities. In addition to that, All India Radio was used to
reach out to 195 towns that are not covered by private players.
Digital media was used strongly. One of the first things the company did was to launch an alternate reality game on
idiotsacademy.com where actor Aamir Khan said that he will travel through India, leaving clues about his
whereabouts, and participants had two weeks to find him.
The site had over 600,000 unique visitors in a matter of two weeks. Along with that, the marketers of the film used
Facebook extensively to make a point. A profile called Pucca Idiot was created that today has over 100,000 fans.
Meanwhile, each promo and song of the movie was unveiled at separate events with the entire star cast. This added
to the buzz.
Likewise, the overseas market too was given major attention with the focus on the top six markets: North America,
United Kingdom, West Asia, Australia-New Zealand and South Africa. Together, these markets make up 85 per cent
of the first-run theatrical collections.
For this, Anil Arjun and his team first did a thorough population study and mapping of the region.
"In California there are over 400,000 South Asians in certain pockets of the state; we therefore decided to penetrate
theatres where the South Asian population was particularly strong," says Arjun.
Following this, the movie was released in far more theatres to match penetration. For instance, 3 Idiotsmade it to 26
locations in California (as opposed to three or four) as against the traditional 10 and 11 locations in Florida.
Piracy problems were also effectively handled. A core group working from India, the United States and the United
Kingdom tracked and attacked piracy -- physical as well as online -- by issuing trade notices, warning letters specific
to prospective infringing sites and outlets across the United States, Canada and Europe. Raids were also conducted
following the release of the movie.
Finally, the makers of the film knew that a large opening would be its trump card. Thus distribution was given equal
importance.
In India, the film was released across 1,850 screens; overseas it opened in over 360 screens, making it the largest
opening thus far.
"We made sure the domestic market was fully penetrated with the maximum number of shows at multiple timings. But
what really worked for us was the fact that of the 50 million people who watched the film first, about 15 million came
back to watch it the second time," says Reliance BIG Pictures COO Kamal Gianchandani.
Bollywood is becoming big business. Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots has created Bollywood history by raking in a record Rs
240 crore from box office collections in both the domestic and the international markets. This is the highest revenue
earned by any Indian-made film. Moreover, these record-breaking collections are only for the first 10 days of
exhibition. The film is still running to packed houses. With this, Khan has broken his own record set by Ghajini last
Ghajini’s domestic and international collections grossed a total of Rs 225 crore, with Gadar, starring Sunny Deol,
netting Rs 175 crore and Hritik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Dhoom 2 recording total box office sales
of Rs 145 crore.

Made with a budget of Rs 45 crore, 3 Idiots has already raked over five times what the producer, Vidhu Vinod
Chopra, had invested in the film, which tells the story of three friends through their college and work. The distribution
rights of the film were bought by Anil Ambani’s Big Pictures for around Rs 80 crore, according to industry sources.
Acknowledging that he is creating history, Aamir Khan said, “Usually I go by the way audiences are reacting to the
film than the figures. In this case, figures are so huge that in 10 days we have surpassed the lifetime collections of
Ghajini. Response and adulation have been huge.”
Vidhu Vinod Chopra, of course, is laughing his way to the bank. “We have been visiting cities and getting feedback
interacting with audiences. Apart from the constant adulation, we have learnt that people are not getting tickets. This
is shocking. We are in the second week, shows have increased, but tickets are not available. Everywhere the
collections in the second week are better than the first,” he said.
The sheer success of the film is reflected by the fact that in the first nine months of financial year 2009-10, as many
as 123 Bollywood mainstream films have netted an estimated Rs 1,600 crore in box office collections (domestic and
international combined). This takes 3 Idiots box office collections to about 15 per cent of the total for the first nine
months of the financial year.
Looking at it another way, in November, domestic box office collection of all the Bollywood films put together was Rs
250 crore, which included hit films like Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, which was a mega hit starring Ranbir Kapoor
(made Rs 60 crore). 3 Idiots alone made the same money in November.
What makes the film special is that it has not only done well in the domestic market, but has also beaten the top
rankings, which the badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan has traditionally received for his films in the US market
where he reigns supreme. Through 3 Idiots, Aamir Khan has toppled Shah Rukh’s record in the US, raking in almost
Rs 22 crore in 10 days, compared to the previous record held by Om Shanti Om, which raked in Rs 17 crore.
3 Idiots’ overseas collections are a staggering Rs 45 crore — much higher than the previous record-holder Ghajini,
which made Rs 35 crore.
The film’s publicity was also assisted by the controversy raked up by Chetan Bhagat, writer of the best-selling novel
Five Point Someone, from which the film is inspired, alleging that proper credit was not given to him. While Bhagat
has asked the film makers to give him credit at the beginning of the film, the latter say the credit has been given at the
end. However, since the release of 3 Idiots, the book has witnessed a 15-20 per cent jump in sales across various
book shops in the capital and across the metros, book shop executives claim — a fact vouched by Rupa & Company,
the publishers of Bhagat’s book.
“There have been enquires and sale of Five Point Someone, especially in December. We are selling 30-40 copies
daily,” a senior executive of a leading book store at Khan Market in South Delhi said. The book is also available
online and is free-to-download.
The publicity has helped the multiplexes, too, which have increased the number of shows by 20 per cent in the
second week — something unheard of considering that 60 per cent of the box office collections come in the first week
and occupancies dip in the second week. “Even in the second week, the advance bookings are strong. Occupancies,
too, have not dropped,” Ashish Sakena, COO, BIG Cinemas, said.
“3 Idiots has had the advantage of no other big ticket release and also the strong script has helped retain and grow
audiences. We are increasing the number of shows by 20 per cent. People are pouring in even though ticket prices
have been increased by 30 per cent for the evening shows,” Vishal Kapur, COO of Fun Cinemas, added.
The film was released with over 1,500 prints in India and 344 prints overseas.

3 idiots is creating records. Aamir Khan starrer 3 idiots has earned a whooping 315
crores worldwide in just 19 days. The producers claimed that such a collection has
made it the biggest movie at the Box office.
3 idiots has broken all previous box office records for Indian films. It is believed
that more than 60 million people across the globe have watched the movie 3 idiots
in theatres which has contributed to such a huge box office collection.
Rajkumar Hirani directed 3 idiots fell just 28% in terms of occupancy in the
2nd week. A number of multiplexes have added 14 to 21 new shows in the second
week and thus it has become very hard to predict the business of this film. There
has been a very strong word of mouth for the film as people are not tired of
praising the movie, especially Chatur’s speech.
Aamir said that as a member of the 3 idiots team he was very happy with the
success of the film. He further thanked Hirani for making the film, Vinod for being a
great producer and Reliance Big Pictures for the kind of release that was provided
to the movie.
Early indications are that the film will have a solid first day, at par, or perhaps more than Ghajini. The
industry feels that the Day 1 figures would be more than Rs. 10 crores nett. Fingers crossed.
Aamir Khan, the man who conquered the box office with Ghajini same time last year, returns yet again
on Christmas, this time with a comedy directed by Raju Hirani.
The ticket prices for the weekend were hiked by around 100% (double) at some places, not in all cities
as reported by the media though. Neither the makers nor the distributors are to be blamed for the hike,
the price of tickets is decided by the multiplex owners.
The advance booking that opened earlier this week, was fantastic. The paid previews playing at 2 shows
per screen (7PM and 10PM) at multiplexes in select cities were sold out. With Friday being a holiday for
Christmas, 3 Idiots will enjoy a extended holiday weekend and should easily be the top earner for the
weekend this year.
Weekend collections, as predicted earlier, should easily touch 30 crores and with extremely positive initial
reports, Aamir Khan should score a box office hat-trick with 3 Idiots.
********************************
Update: The paid previews, as predicted has broken the record of Ghajini. The percentage of occupancy
was lower than Ghajini but with previews held at more than 650 screens all over India, the business
crossed the Rs 2 crore mark, a day before its release.
Today (Friday) was a holiday and even the morning shows (7 – 10AM) at multiplexes were houseful.
Friday, if paid previews were any indication, should easily break the 10 crore mark. Collections should be
somewhere between 10 – 11 crores.
When we spoke to Deepak of Big Cinemas, he was quite upbeat about the business “For the first time
this year the morning shows were sold out. The advance booking for Saturday and Sunday is great, we
expect every show to be houseful over the weekend.”
Rs 35 crores for the weekend including paid previews is a possibility and if 3 Idiots sustains on Monday,
Week 1 nett could cross 50 crores.
********************************
3 Idiots is now officially the highest grossing film on its opening day (Friday), the collections are strong all
over and the word of mouth is outstanding. Aamir, Hirani, Vinod Chopra and others associated with the
film, couldn’t really have asked for more.
The movie is all set to be the first and only Bollywood blockbuster of the year.
********************************
As updated yesterday, 3 Idiots has shattered predictions and is soon to be one of the biggest
blockbusters Bollywood has ever witnessed. The Ghajini record is history as the Monday collections are as
good as Saturday.
The movie has further added 11 crores on Monday, which is unheard of, 3 Idiots has broken every
record, in every circuit, in almost every city.
It would be close to impossible for any film, including My Name Is Khan and Kites to come close to the
record set by 3 Idiots.
Sky is the limit for the film. Aamir Khan – Take a bow!
Thursday – 2.5 crores (paid previews)
Friday – 12.50 crores
Saturday – 11.50 crores
Sunday – 13.50 crores
Monday – 11 crores
Tuesday – 9.5 crores
Wednesday – 9 crores
Thursday – 10 crores
Week 1 – 79 crores
Friday – 11 crores
Saturday – 11 crores
Sunday – 12 crores
Monday – 6 crores
Tuesday – 5 crores
Wednesday – 4.5 crores
Thursday – 4 crores
Week 2 – 53.5 crores
Week 3 – 30 crores
Week 4 – 16 crores

New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS) Aamir Khan starrer comedy-drama '3 Idiots' has created a record by grossing over Rs.100
crore in its first four days. Reliance BIG Entertainment, distributor of the film, released about 2,000 prints across 40
countries.
Based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller 'Five Point Someone', the film has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and
directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
'We are privileged to have been associated with '3 idiots' and its immensely talented team led by Vinod, Aamir and
Raju. The ramp-up to Rs. 100 crore in 4 days is phenomenal and we are confident that the film will continue to blaze
new records in the weeks to come,' Amit Khanna, Chairman, Reliance Big Entertainment, said in a statement.
Added Chopra: 'Response has been overwhelming from all over the world. Aamir, Raju and I knew from the
responses earlier on that people liked the film but this is something else? We have got reports from places like
Australia that they have reduced 'Avatar' shows and increased ours.'
Released Friday, its box office collection has beaten the initial earnings of another Aamir starrer 'Ghajini', considered
Hindi cinema's highest grosser till date, with 30 percent more earnings till Sunday night.
''3 Idiots' is the highest grossing Hindi film ever in Australia on its opening weekend. Similarly in the US, I have been
given to understand that '3 Idiots' would be highest ever for a Hindi film,' said Chopra.
The paid previews of the movie also garnered over Rs.9 crore worldwide, above those of the paid preview collections
of 'Ghajini' that was Rs.7 crore globally.
The film, which reportedly cost Rs.80-100 crore, also stars R. Madhavan,Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Kareena
Kapoor in pivotal roles.
