Topic: Music Therapy

Central Idea: Music therapy has many positive effects on the brain.

Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience will understand the benefits of music therapy in
different types of situations.

Introduction: Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I do is turn on music on my phone. I listen to
music while eating breakfast and getting ready for school. It helps wake me up and gives me enough
energy to survive the day. There’s always music playing in my car, no matter what. And finally, on the
odd days when I get inspired to go to the gym, listening to music helps me build up the energy I need to
get through the workout. Music is such a big part of most of our lives but most people don’t realize how
much of an impact music has on people. Music can help veterans recover from post traumatic stress
disorder. It can help people with traumatic brain injuries recover faster. It can also help students relieve
stress in everyday situations. According to the American Music Therapy Association music therapy is the
clinical and evidence based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a
therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional. So in plain English, music therapy uses music to
help people mentally recover from problems in their lives.

Conclusion: To sum it up, music therapy can have positive effects on the mind and body. It can help
victims of traumatic brain injury, veterans suffering from PTSD, and students dealing with stress. So the
next time you are listening to music or playing an instrument, remember all the benefits it can have!
