Change Clothes With A Pattern Fill In Photoshop

Photoshop allows you to create your own patterns (or use an existing one) and apply it to an image as a fill layer.
This means you can scale the pattern, as well as changing opacity and blending modes to make it look like the
pattern was always part of the image.

In this example, we’re going to change the texture of the woman’s suit in this image using an existing pattern.
You can download the image for free here. Thanks to Plethr. Note: I’m using CS5 for the screen grabs, but the
method is the same for older versions of Photoshop.

1. Open up the photograph in Photoshop.

2. Before we apply a pattern fill we need to select only the parts of the image that we want to apply it to. In this
case the blue suit is fairly easy to select and there are several ways to do it. I’m using the Color Range command.
Choose Select > Color Range. The Color Range dialog box opens up. Use the Eyedropper to select part of the
suit. In the Color Range dialog box you’ll see a black and white preview of the parts of the image that are
selected. Drag the Fuzziness slider to the left and right to refine how much of the blue color is selected.
To add to the selection using similar colors, use the eyedropper with the + symbol, to remove a color from the
selection use the eyedropper with the – symbol. When you’re happy with the selection click OK.

3. If you find that this method has not picked up all of the suit, select the Magic Wand tool in the tool box and
Shift + Click any areas that have not been selected. By holding down the Shift key, you add to the selection and
don’t lose what has already been selected. Keep Shift + Clicking until you’ve selected every part of the suit.
4. Now that you have an active selection of the woman’s suit, click and hold on the Create New Fill or Adjustment
Layer button at the bottom of the Layers panel, and choose Pattern.
The Pattern Fill dialog box appears and in the Layers Palette you’ll see a new pattern layer mask above your
current layer. You’ll also notice that suddenly the woman’s suit is filled with the default pattern.
5. To apply a different pattern (because that default one is pretty hideous), click on the small triangle beside the
pattern swatch in the Pattern Fill dialog box. Then click on the small triangle in the upper right corner of the drop
down box. At the bottom of the menu that appears you will see lots of patterns available in groups such as Artist
Surfaces, Nature Patterns and Rock Patterns. Choose Artist Surfaces. You will more than likely see a dialog box
asking if you want to Replace Current Patterns, just choose Append to add to your existing patterns.
6. Choose a pattern that you like from the thumbnails, I’ve picked Gauze and set the scale to 150%. You’ll see the
pattern applied instantly to the suit. Click OK if you’re happy with that pattern, otherwise choose another one.
The result will appear a little heavy handed and completely unnatural, but that’s where our blending modes come
in.

7. With your new Fill layer still selected, click and hold on Normal in the blending mode drop-down menu on the
Layers panel, and choose Multiply. By choosing Multiply, the white part of the pattern is knocked out and we just
see that Gauze effect. Importantly though, we see the creases and seams in the suit.
You can also reduce the opacity of the pattern fill if it is too overwhelming.
8. You can experiment with other blending modes to see how they affect the final rendering of the pattern.
Overlay tends to work very well, too.
The best thing about this method is how easy it easy it is to change the pattern. Simply double click on the
Pattern Fill thumbnail (the one on the left side of the layer) to quickly choose and apply other patterns. Here’s a
few more examples with the same image and the Red Fleck, Blue Daisy and Wood patterns which come with
Photoshop.

கருப்புப் பின்புலத்தில் கருப்பொருளைப் படமாக்குதல் சுவாரசியமான அனுபவம். வணிக நோக்கம்,

கருப்பொருளை "வெளிச்சம்" போட்டுக் காட்டல், எதிர்மறையான உணர்வை வெளிப்படுத்துதல் போன்ற

காரணங்களுக்கு இந்த கருப்புப் பின்புலம் முக்கியமாகப் பயன்படுகிறது. பலர் கருப்பு பின்புலத்தை "மங்களம்"

இல்லை எனத் தவிர்த்துவிடுவர். இந்த விருப்பு, வெறுப்புக்கு அப்பால், கருப்புப் பின்புலத்தில் கருப்பொருளைப்

படமாக்குதல் என்பது வழமையான படமாக்குதலில் இருந்து வேறுபட்டது.

இது ஒரு பொழுதுபோக்கு. நம்மில் பலர் வைத்திருப்பது ஒர் DSLR மற்றும்

அதற்குண்டான சில பொருட்கள்தான். உண்மையில் பொருளை அல்லது

காட்சியைப் படமாக்குதல் என்பது வெறுமனே "கிளிக்" அல்லாமல் சற்று நுட்பம்

பற்றிய அறிந்தால் நாமும் அழகான படங்களுக்குச் சொந்தக்காரர் ஆகலாம். இனி

விடயத்திற்கு வருவோம்.

கருப்பு நிறம் ஒளியை உறிஞ்சும் என்பதால் கருப்பான பொருட்கள் படத்தில்

சரியாக விழுவதில் சிரமத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும். எனவே தனிக் கருப்பான பொருளை

தெளிவாகப் படம்பிடித்தல் என்பதே சிரமத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும். இங்கு பின்புலம்,

ஒளிப் பாவனை என்பன அவசியம். பொருளின் ஓரங்கள் ஒளியினால்

மிளிரும்போது, பொருள் பின்புலத்தில் இருந்து வேறுபடுத்தப்பட்டுத் தெரியும்.

கருப்புப் பின்புலத்தில் கருப்புப் பொருள் மறைந்து போகாமலிருக்க ஒளி

பொருளின் விளிம்புகளிற்பட்டு ஒளிர வேண்டும். இதற்காகவே மேலுள்ள அமைப்பு

முறை அவசியமாகிறது. இந்த நுட்பத்தை விளங்கிக் கொண்டால் எம்மாலும்

கருப்புனுள் கருப்பை படம்பிடிக்க முடியும். பொருளைவிட பின்புலம் கருப்பாக

இல்லாமல் சாம்பல் நிறத்தில் அல்லது கிட்டத்தட்ட 70% - 90% கருப்பு நிறத்தில்

இருந்தாலும் கருப்பினுள் கருப்பினைப் படமாக்கலாம். (படம் 1) அல்லது

பின்புலத்தில் ஒளித் தெரிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியும் படமாக்கலாம். (படம் 2)

வட்டிலிருந்த
ீ பொருட்களைக் கொண்டு இரு torch light உதவியுடன் கமிராவிலுள்ள

பிளாஷைக் கொண்டு எளிய முறையில், மேற் குறிப்பிட்ட அமைப்பு முறையில்

படமாக்கப்பட்ட mouse. இங்கு குடையுடன் பிளாஷ் பயன்படுத்தப்படவில்லை.

இங்கு போதிய ஒளி கிடைக்காததால் ஓரங்கள் சிறப்பாக வரவில்லை.

ஓரங்களுக்கு ஒளித் தெறிப்பு மற்றும் பொருளை வெளிக்காட்டக்கூடிய ஒளி

அமைப்பு என்பன மிக முக்கியம். பொருளுக்கும் கருப்புத் திரைக்கும் குறைந்தது

1.5 மீ ட்டர் இடைவெளி இருப்பது கருப்புத் திரையின் விபரங்கள் தெரியாதவாறு

படமாக்க உதவும்.

ஷார்ப்பன் செய்துகொள்ள அருமையான பில்டராகும்.அதாவது உங்களது

படத்திலிருக்கும் Edges களை மட்டும் கண்டுபிடித்து ஒரு outline தந்துவிடும்

அந்த Edges களுக்கு நீங்கள் எத்தனை பிக்ஸல்களை தேர்வு செய்கிறீர்களோ

அந்த பிக்ஸல் கான்டிராஸ்டினை படத்தின் Edges களில் அப்ளை செய்ய

உங்களது படத்தில் ஷார்பன் கூடியிருக்கும்.

இதுதாங்க High Pass பில்டரின் தியரி இனி பிராக்டிக்கல்ஸ்கு போகலாமா?

முதலில் உங்களது படத்தை போட்டோஷாப்பில் திறக்கவும். பின்னர்

இப்போது உங்களது பேக்கிரவுண்டு லேயரை டூப்ளிகேட் செய்துகொள்ளவும்.

(CTRL+J).

இப்போது Filter>Other>High Pass என்பதனை தேர்வுசெய்யவும்.

இப்போது தோன்றும் High Pass மெனுவில் உங்களுக்கு தேவையான

ரேடியஸை கொடுக்கவும்.
அதாவது High Pass பில்டரைப்பொருத்தவரை Radius 1 லிருந்து 2

பிக்ஸல்களுக்கு மிகாமல் இருப்பது நல்லது.இல்லையேல் இந்த High Pass

பில்டர் படத்தில் Halos ஐ உருவாக்கிவிடும்.

இங்கு மற்றொரு விஷயத்தையும் உங்களுடன் நான் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ள

விரும்புகிறேன்.குறிப்பாக இந்த High Pass பில்டர் பயன்படுத்துபவர்கள்

பெரும்பாலும் கோட்டைவிடுவது இந்த இடத்தில் தான்.அதாவது High Pass

பில்டர் கொண்டு ஷார்பன் செய்யப்படும் படங்கள் அனைத்துமே

பெரும்பாலும் Color Frings களை உருவாக்கும்.இதனை கட்டாயம்

நீக்கவேண்டும்.
கீ ழேயிருக்கும் படத்தை பாருங்கள் படத்தை Zoom செய்து பார்க்கையில்

Color Frings களை காணலாம்.

இதனை சரி செய்ய High Pass பில்டர் Apply செய்தவுடன்

Image>Adjustments>Desaturate செய்துகொள்ளவும்.(Shift+Ctrl+U).
Desaturate செய்தவுடன் படத்தில் Color Frings கள் நீக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதைக்

காணலாம்.
சரி High Pass பில்டரை Apply செய்துவிட்டோம்,ஆனால் படத்தில் என்னவோ

ஒருவித அவுட்லைன் தானே தெரிகிறது.அதுவும் Gray நிறத்தில்.... ???

ஆம் இந்த High Pass பில்டர் Blending மோடுகளுடன் தொடர்புடையது எனவே

உங்களது Blending மோடை கட்டாயம் மாற்றவேண்டும்.நான் ஏற்கனவே

எழுதியிருந்த புகைப்படக்கலைஞர்கள் அவசியம் அறிந்திருக்க வேண்டிய

Blend மோடுகளில் 50% Gray நிறத்தோடு தொடர்புடைய Blend மோடு Overlay

அல்லது Softlight என குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கிறேன்.எனவே இப்போது உங்களது

லேயரின் Blend மோடை Overlay அல்லது Softlight க்கு மாற்ற 50% Gray வானது

transparant ஆக‌மாற ஷார்பான படம் தயார்.

படத்தில் ஷார்பன் அதிகமாக இருப்பின் High Pass லேயரின் Opacity யை

குறைத்துக்கொள்ளவும்.

Here is a quick, easy way to add a centered guide to any Photoshop document:

Choose View > New Guide, and enter a position of 50%.

That’s it. Want to mark the center of your document? Repeat the process twice with both horizontal
and vertical guides. This technique works for all percentages, so if you want a guide at 1/3 the width
of your image, just enter a percentage of 33%.
