DESIGNING MEANINGFUL PERFORMANCE-BASED ASSESSMENT

EXPLORE

A. The first step in developing performance assessments involves determining which concepts,
knowledge, and/or skills should be assessed. With this, you need to know what type of decisions will be
made from the given assessment.

Tasks: 1. Identify a process-oriented and product-oriented performance.

2. Formulate competencies in defining the purposes of the assessment.

Use the template below in accomplishing this task.

Orientation Topic General Specific Competencies Expected

with the audience while

the poem through

B. The Research and Development Center of a State University wanted to find out the level of awareness
of the students regarding their political, economic, and educational rights. The center envisions that the
result of the study will show student awareness and differences among them if they belong to different
college levels and taking different degree programs.

With the given situation, formulate general and specific competencies and identify the processes
involved and product expected from the students in conducting the study.

General Competency Investigate students’ level of awareness regarding their political,

economic and educational rights.
Specific Competency 1. Analyze students’ level of awareness of their political, economic,
and educational rights as prescribed by the law;

2. Determine if education has a big factor in their political

awareness;

3. Find out if financial stress affects the students’ well-being;

4. Determine if the students know their right to education.

Process Involved Descriptive-Survey Method

Self-made questionnaire

Product Expected Raise awareness for the students’ political, economic and
educational rights.
C. Evaluate the following performance tasks description. What is missing?

Your group in Science and Technology class asked to perform a laboratory activity in preparing juice
drinks in varied concentration. Perform what you believe will need to arrive at the desired learning
outcomes. Set up three solutions and identify the saturated solution. Validation of answer can be done
by asking the classmates to taste the prepared juice drinks. A representative from the group shall report
the findings of the experiment.

Evaluation:

I think what is missing is the forming of the hypothesis and the forming of the question. In the scientific
method there are steps which you follow to arrive at the conclusions or results. They did the experiment
first before formulating the question or the learning outcomes. They also did not have a hypothesis to
test and they immediately performed the experiment.
