They explain the effect of having a heavy social media presence and how it is beneficial to

putting your musical out there to people see that may or may not see it. This article will help

write this paper because clearly answers my question about how Hamilton: The Musical has had

such a significant impact on the musical theatre industry.

This third article discusses the musicals plan to release a film version of the Hamilton:

The Musical. This film version of the musical will feature the original cast. It was filmed in 2016

right before the original cast left the Broadway show. This articles also states that it is based on

three live performances which allows for multiple angles. Even Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger,

describes Hamilton: The Musical as an “astonishing work of art.” This article give straight

information there is no detectable biases.

This fourth article, analyzes and questions the same thing that I am questioning. It asks

what makes Hamilton so special. This article explains why its writer thinks Hamilton: The

Musical has so much success. It lists all of the factors of Hamilton that could differentiate it from

other musicals in general and other historical musicals as well. It talks about factors from the

way the story captivates you and brings you in despite your ethnic background and its ability to

interest the younger demographic and reach that crowd that has been deemed unreachable in the

musical theatre world. This article explains the genius of Lin Manuel Miranda’s work on the

score and the book of the musical. It praises his work and explains how it will affect the future of

musicals going forward. It also tells us how Hamilton’s has influenced live theatre attendance,

which has been up and down over the past few years since “Book of Mormon.” It also discusses

how Hamilton: The Musical has the ability to fuse the present with the past with different social

topics. One of these topics that Hamilton: The Musical helps bring into the spotlight is
immigration. The albums charting success is also mentioned in this article. It addresses

Hamilton’s charting success on the Billboard charts. This article is free of biases to my

knowledge.

The fifth article focuses a bit more on Hamilton’s lyrics and references. It talks about the

musical is relatable to people of all tastes, ages, and backgrounds. Much like the last article it

discusses the difference the album made to not only the musical but also the soundtrack industry

for musicals in general. It speaks on references to Grandmaster Flash and B.I.G. It also discusses

how he fuses hip-hop and rap into traditional musical fare. Lin Manuel Miranda doing this shows

hip expressive love for the theatre world and hip-hop. This article also tells us that Hamilton:

The Musical deserves its own musical space to describe its achievements authentically for what

they are. Because Hamilton is a musical, I think it is important to analyze what make the actual

music in this musical different form all the rest and this article will help me to be able to do so. I

do not see any particular biases in this article.

The sixth article is from the perspective of a writer and it is her take on what makes

Hamilton so successful. She says that the Hamilton’s success is due to a multitude of things one

of them being its reflectiveness of the current times, much like the fourth article. It also says that

the way Miranda makes his characters less of deities and more of flawed and relatable characters.

He also develops the female characters to be more than just wives of the influential men of the

musical. There is not any explicitly noticeable bias in this article. However, I feel that maybe

because the author was a writer, she may notice things or be a bit harsher in analyzing things that

your everyday musical watcher would not pick up on or judge as harshly.

In all of these articles the authors are questioning the same thing that I am basing my

paper around. There is no doubting that Hamilton: The Musical is successful, but everyone is
interested in what is driving that success. These articles each break down a variety of

components that make up the musical and give it all its glory. I do not see any gaps in my

research at this point in my writing. These articles will help me thoroughly answer my research

question to the best of my ability. I intend to use all of the statistics and information I have

gathered from these articles to answer my question with more knowledge and fact-based

information than I could before.
