The document discusses extreme weather events and climate change. It mentions that parts of the UK and Ukraine have experienced severe storms that caused power outages and property damage. The conversations also address droughts in Africa, hurricanes in the US, and heatwaves in India and Pakistan. The document concludes that climate change is occurring and will lead to more extreme weather events in the future, so societies must prepare and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

- Hi! Have you watched the latest news?
-Hi! No, what happened?
-News channels have been highlighting the case that rain levels are much lower than usual. It hasn't rained even half of the monthly average. -Yeah, you are right. I think it’s the worst drought we’ve seen in years. -It’s terrible. There are a lot of extreme weather conditions that make our life harder. -Although people in Britain often moan about the weather. Sandstorms, tornadoes, blizzards and flash floods frequently kill thousands of people and leave many others homeless. - So, I have read that in Great Britain, people have long joked that trivial seasonal conditions such as ‘leaves on the line’ or a light drizzle have brought transport chaos to the rail network and misery to commuters. In countries with more extreme weather conditions, preparedness for these conditions becomes a matter of urgency for the local population. What extreme weather conditions do you know of? -For example, a tsunami is a large wave that travels at vast speed towards land. They are usually caused by an undersea earthquake. When the undersea earthquake happens, the Earth's tectonic plates move suddenly downward and upwards. The water forms a wave. The water is a very powerful force and can cause tremendous damage. But extreme weather events such as drought and flooding are happening more often than another. - I guess, extreme weather also meant that people around the world suffered from high-impact climate events such as severe droughts in Africa, devastating tornadoes and hurricanes in the USA, and terrible heatwaves in India and Pakistan. We all know that weather patterns are different in different parts of the world and it seems that people always grumbling about the climate impact on their lives without taking serious measures to stop the process of global warming. - We do not have in Ukraine such catastrophes as a tsunami earthquake, drought, but we have heavy storms. I live in Kyiv region and almost we have gale. Strong winds downed dozens of trees and even bent metal billboards. Power was cut off in villages overnight because of the storm. Has something like this happened in your land? - Ohh, I remembered about that disaster! I live in the Volyn region – and we have the same catastrophe. It was a severe storm. Many houses, roads and fields were flooded and we also had no power supply for more than 5 days. The wind was shattering many houses. My dad barely got home and I’ve soaked to the skin. I also remember that there was a hail that broke many windows in houses. Vegetables grown in the fields were destroyed. In your opinion, what causes such storms? - I think that we have all these storms because our climate is changeable. Scientists and meteorologists have warned us that weather patterns are changing and polar ice caps are melting. There is also increasing evidence that average temperatures are rising around the world. - The world can no longer say that global warming 'might' happen and climate change 'could' affect our future. A recent report by the Royal Society in the UK tells us that global warming is definitely happening and climate change will affect our future. The report warns that extreme weather events, such as floods, storms, and heatwaves, will happen more often. But what effects could these weather events have on our future? - The Royal Society report advises all levels of society to prepare To fight rising temperatures, the authors say cutting greenhouse gas emissions is essential. - However, many people do not understand why the climate is changing. How would you explain climate change to someone who knew nothing about it? - I can assure that all these phenomena are affected by human activity and, in general, by the changes in the world. By watching various TV shows and videos on social networks, you can learn more about climate change! - Maybe you have heard about global warming that is caused by the greenhouse effect The problem is that daily human activities maximize the greenhouse effect, causing the planet’s temperature to increase even more. - I agree up to a point with you! Humanity destroys nature around itself without even thinking about it. We must organize ourselves right away." -Okay, thanks for the good talk! Bye! - Bye! Have a nice day!
