While virtualization is a proven strategy for consolidating databases, it can present unique
challenges. Resource contention and lost connections can put critical database application
performance and availability at risk. And hardware that isn’t optimized for virtualized
Oracle environments can lead to costly server and storage sprawl. Finally, managing Oracle
databases is complex, often consuming too much of a DBA’s time.
Increase efficiency
The Dell EMC Ready Bundle for Oracle offers a lower entry point with a purchase price
up to 55% lower than the most advanced engineered solution for Oracle in the market,
according to an internal cost analysis.1 In addition, the massive over-provisioning typical of
databases creates tremendous consolidation potential. With server consolidation, not only
are hardware footprints reduced, but the costs for expensive database licenses are also
reduced. The Dell EMC Ready Bundle for Oracle has optimized Dell EMC VMAX All Flash
storage, combined with VMware® virtualization, enabling consolidation onto fewer servers
and storage arrays for lower capital expense (CapEx) and operational expense (OpEx).
In addition, the solution lowers training costs due to its simplicity and ease of use, while
replacing proprietary infrastructure reduces maintenance and support costs. Dell EMC
PowerEdge R940 Servers offer increased performance while using fewer cores, resulting
in up to $600K in Oracle licensing savings per server.2

Solution overview
“The business requires better performance and availability, but budgets are flat
or shrinking.”
Growing data sets put pressure on IT to reduce costs while remaining responsive to
business and customer needs. The Dell EMC Ready Bundle for Oracle reduces costs
on multiple fronts. It combines a lower purchase price with the lower CapEx and OpEx
provided by server and storage consolidation. Dell EMC VMAX All Flash Storage uses data
reduction techniques and thin provisioning to optimize the use of storage resources, while
Dell EMC PowerEdge servers use extremely powerful, high core count Intel® Xeon® Scalable
Processors and dense memory footprint to consolidate multiple virtualized Oracle Real
Application Cluster (RAC) databases on to fewer servers, helping to lower Oracle licensing
costs up to 20%.

Dell EMC PowerEdge R940 Server (database compute): With 4 sockets and up to 6TB
of memory capacity, the Dell EMC PowerEdge R940 Server provides scalable performance
in just 3U.
Dell EMC VMAX 250F All Flash Storage Array: Ease of use, scalability, high performance
and a robust set of data services make this an ideal choice for Oracle database
deployments. The foundation of each VMAX 250F All Flash Storage Array is the V-Brick,
which encompasses a single VMAX engine. Each VMAX 250F system can house either 1 or
2 V-Bricks and can provide up to a maximum of 1 PB effective flash capacity. The array can
use the latest 7.6TB and 15TB enterprise flash drives.
Dell EMC Connectrix DS-6510B switch (SAN): The Connectrix DS-6510B is a 1U 48-port
Fibre Channel (FC) switch that can function at 2, 4, 8, 10 or 16Gbps depending upon the
installed optic. Ports on demand can scale from 24 to 36 or 48 ports.
Dell EMC Connectrix DS-6610B switch (SAN): Designed to support the SAN
requirements of small to midsize environments, the Connectrix DS-6610B is a 24-port
switch that offers high performance and economy. The 1U base chassis is prepopulated
with eight 16Gbps Fibre Channel SFP+ shortwave optics. The ports on demand kits allow
expansion in 8-port increments.
