This document provides instructions for fixing sticky softkey problems on Barco Monitors
on the ACUSON Sequoia™ and ACUSON Aspen™ Ultrasound System.

Time Required 0

Repairing the Barco Softkey will take approximately one hour.

Prepare Monitor Unit 0

1. Turn off the power.

2. Unplug the system from the wall outlet.
3. Set the tilt/swivel so that the base of the monitor slants forward. Lock it in place.

Remove Back Panel Covers 0

1. Remove the screws and lock washers securing the back panel cover to the monitor
housing.

2. Pull down then lift out on the back panel cover to remove.

Remove Speaker Covers 0

1. Place an Allen wrench in the hole on the underside of the speaker and push gently up-
ward until the speaker latch disengages.

2. Lift the bottom of the speaker cover out then pull down to remove.

3. Remove the speaker cable.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the other speaker cover.

Remove monitor housing and bezel 0

1. Remove the screws securing the bezel to the monitor housing.

2. Remove the cable from J1 on the brightness/contrast/degauss board on the left side of
the monitor.

3. Slide the monitor housing out approximately one inch.
- Stand behind the system and lift the monitor housing up to release it from the guide
slots.
- Once the monitor housing is free of the guide slots, slide it away from the system to
remove.
4. Remove the screws and washers that secure the bezel to the monitor.

NOTE Do not remove the screw securing the grounding wire to the mon-
itor.

5. Set the screws and washers aside for replacement.

NOTE Most monitor bezels have a circular lock washer and an additional
rectangular or circular spacer washer used for spacing reasons.
Be sure to retain and replace both sets of washers when reassem-
bling the monitor bezel.

6. Lift bezel 2-3 inches away from the monitor.

NOTE Do not completely remove the bezel from the monitor as there are
still cables that connect the two.

7. Remove the cable from J1 on the PCB board as shown in Figure 12.

8. Remove the connector from J1 on the bezel.

9. Remove the screws securing the PCB board to the bezel.

10. Remove the PCB board from the bezel but leave it attached to the monitor.
11. Remove the soft keys and the volume wheel from the bezel.

NOTE Each soft key is different in length and has a specific location on
the bezel. Mark each soft key noting its distinct location and orien-
tation for replacement.

Modify bezel 0

1. Using an X-Acto knife, cut off the top middle two positioning pins on the bezel.

NOTE It is important to leave the outermost and bottom middle position-

ing pins for alignment of the PCB board during replacement.

2. Clean the soft key buttons and soft key area on the front bezel.

Reassemble system 0

1. Replace the soft key buttons and volume wheel, ensuring that each softkey has been
replaced to the correct position.

2. Line up the positioning pins and replace the PCB board.

3. Screw the PCB board onto the bezel.
4. Replace the cable onto J1 on the PCB board
5. Replace the connector onto J1 on the bezel.
6. Replace the screws, lock washers, and spacing washers that secure the bezel to the
monitor.

NOTE Hold the bezel assembly tight against the monitor.

7. Replace the monitor housing.

NOTE Be sure to have one washer on each side of the monitor housing
tab for spacing reasons. If both washers are one one side of the
monitor housing, it may not fit properly and the tabs may be dam-
aged or broken.

8. Replace the cable at J1 on the contrast/brightness/degauss board.

9. Replace the screws securing the bezel to the monitor housing.
10. Replace the speaker cables.
11. Replace the speaker cover by lining up the top edge of the cover first then the bottom.
Ensure that the speaker clicks into place.
12. Replace the back panel cover.
13. Replace the screws and lock washers securing the back panel cover to the monitor
housing.

Verification 0

After the system has been reassembled, verify that none of the softkeys stick and that the
monitor is operational.

1. Plug the system into the wall outlet.

2. Boot the system to SUI.
3. Verify the brightness, contrast and degauss levels are set correctly.
4. Verify functionality of all four softkey buttons.
5. Select UI Diagnostics in the Service Diagnostics menu.
6. Verify that the monitor passes all tests in the video test patterns.
7. Verify that the speakers work correctly.
