Overview
1System Delivery Procedure

This document provides instructions for powering on and checking a ACUSON Sequoia
ultrasound system at a customer site.
ACUSON Sequoia system power on and check includes:
• Uncrating the system and peripheral devices
• Inventorying the shipment
• Powering on the system
• Checking the system configuration
• Connecting transducers

Before You Start 0

Ensure there is sufficient space to allow removing the system from the crate.

Required Materials 0

• Flat Head Screwdriver


• Utility Knife
• Diagonal cutter

Check for Shipping Damage 0

Notify Siemens immediately if any damage is found.

1. Verify the “TIP N TELL” on the crate is not activated.


2. Verify the “SHOCK” indicator is not tripped.

Remove the system 0

Unpack the crate 0

1. Remove the straps from the shipping container.


2. Remove the top cover.
3. Remove the clips (both sides) and container sleeves
4. Remove the sterilization tub box (if present) from front of system.
5. Remove the front piece , see figure below, of the container.
a) Remove the wing nuts (2); there is one on each side of the container.
b) Pull the sides of the container down.
6. Remove the ramps.
a) Line up the arrow on the ramps with the arrows on the pallet.
b) Pull down the ramp supports.
7. Pull system off the pallet.
8. Remove the plastic cover from the system.
9. Remove the monitor collar from the system.

10. Remove the accessories from both boxes.

5. Remove the straps and packaging material from peripheral bay.

1. Move system and accessories to customer specified location.


2. Remove the transducers from the shipping cases and remove the plastic wrap from the
transducer cables.

3. Check all peripheral connections to ensure cords are secured.

Verify Contents of Packaging List 0

• Check peripherals shipped, and make sure they match the packing list. Notify Siemens
immediately if any discrepancy is found.
• Check that the peripherals are safely secured to the system.

Set Up the System 0

Attach the Peripheral Bay Doors, if required. 0

NOTE Systems equipped with the Perspective® Advanced Display Op-


tion must have blank peripheral bay doors installed on both sides
of the peripheral bay.

1. Retract the spring-loaded L-pin on the peripheral bay door.


2. Insert the peripheral bay door pegs into the holes in the peripheral bay opening.
3. Release the L-pin.
4. Repeat for the opposite side.

Power on the System 0

1. Plug the system power cord into a power outlet specified by the customer.
2. Press the power button on the left under the monitor to power on the system.
The system takes approximately two minutes to boot. If the system is not completely
booted after five minutes call Siemens.

1. Check that the screen appears as shown in Figure 1 or Figure 2, depending on system
type (i.e. C256 or GI512)

NOTE To properly see the image area, it may be necessary to increase


the 2-D gain

1. Verify the date and time shown in the upper right corner of the screen is accurate. If the
date or time is not accurate call Siemens.

system.

Check the Transducer Ports 0

1. Insert a transducer into the left transducer port.

Some transducers are keyed; they can be inserted only into the right or
left transducer ports. Do not try to force a transducer into a port.

- Slide the transducer connector into the transducer port. The cable must be facing up,
and the knob must be horizontal.
- Turn the knob until it is vertical. The knob should turn easily; do not force it.

2. Verify that the transducer initializes. See Figure 4 for examples of 2-D imaging screens
for each transducer type.

The screen displays the active transducer in the upper right corner below
the date and time.

3. Remove the transducer from the left transducer port, and repeat steps 1-2 for the cen-
ter transducer port.
4. Remove the transducer from the center transducer port, and repeat steps 1-2 for the
right transducer port.
5. If the transducer did not fit in one or more of the ports, select another transducer and re-
peat steps 1-4.

Check Imaging Modes 0

1. Insert a transducer in any of the transducer ports.

2. Press M Mode to check that the system enters M-mode.

3. Press 2D Only to return to 2-D mode.

4. Check Color Doppler mode.


- Press D Color to check that the system enters Color Doppler mode.

- Turn the D Gain knob to the right to fill the color box.

6. Press PW to check that the system enters PW Doppler mode.

8. If the system includes the Auxiliary CW Transducer Package (see the packing list/sales
order), press Aux to check that the system displays the CW Doppler strip, as shown be-
low.

9. Press 2D Only to return to 2-D mode.

Check Every Transducer 0

Insert each transducer into a transducer port, and verify that it initializes in 2-D imaging.
See Figure 4 for examples of properly initialized 2-D images for each transducer type.

Check Peripheral Operation 0

To verify printer: 0

1. Press the D Color button.


2. Turn the D GAIN knob clockwise until the color box is filled with color.
3. Press the PRINT button.
4. Verify the printer prints a copy of the system monitor display.

NOTE If a color printer is installed the print will have color in it. Otherwise
a black and white image will be printed.

If a VCR is installed, check the VCR function. 0

1. Insert a blank VCR test tape.


2. Press VCR Record on the ACUSON Sequoia system; record for 10 seconds.
3. Press Stop/Eject button once to stop recording.
4. Press Rewind.
5. Press Play. Verify time and date of recording in top right corner of screen.
6. Press Stop/Eject button to stop playing.
7. Press rewind to rewind the tape
8. Press Stop/Eject button and remove the tape from the VCR.

Powering down System 0

1. Press the power button to power down the system


2. Leave power cord plugged into the customer specified outlet.

Customer Acceptance 0

• Ensure that all transducer and peripheral serial numbers match the packing list.
• Obtain the customer’s signature as proof of acceptance.

Crating the System 0

If the system needs to be sent back to the factory see the instructions on the container
sleeve.

Packaging the system 0

1. Remove the Ramps.


2. Line up the arrow on the ramps with the arrow on the pallet.
3. Pull down the ramp supports.
4. Remove the two wing nuts, one on each side of the box.
5. Remove the nose piece.
6. Align the back of the system to the ramps.
7. Install the monitor collar on the system.
8. Push the foot pedal to the position 2 icon on the pedal.
9. Place a plastic bag over the system.
10. Push the system (from the back) on to the pallet. Ensure that the system is all way on
the pallet.
11. Remove the ramps.
12. Pull up the ramp supports and place the ramps upside down into the pallet.
13. Place the accessory boxes with the accessory tray in between the boxes. The narrow
box should be on top.
14. Place the cardboard sleeves around the pallet and secure with clips.
15. Place the top cover on and secure by strapping the cardboard to the pallet.
