Bullying and Victimization: School Climate Matters
Bullying and Victimization: School Climate Matters
By Jennifer L. Elfstrom
Abstract
Bullying at school is prevalent in the United States and worldwide, but little is known about the
relationship between students’ experiences with bullying and their perceptions of school climate.
This study investigated the link between bullying and three elements of school climate—social
support from teachers, social support from peers, and school connectedness. The study used
MANOVA analyses to confirm differences between students categorized as bullies, victims,
bully-victims, and bystanders. Findings indicate that students who are not directly involved in
bullying perceive more social support and school connectedness than all other students. Students
who are bullied perceive less social support from peers than other students, while students who
bully perceive less social support from teachers and connection to school than other students.
Findings from this study support strategies to increase social support and school connectedness,
as well as the meaningful involvement of both teachers and students in bullying prevention
efforts.

affect the academic performance in the students in our school. We gathered concepts regarding
pop culture (how pop music is accepted and talked from the people) and fandom theory (how
fandom was utilized and enacted throughout people) to further analyze and to complete this

BATTLING CONGESTION IN MANILA: THE EDSA PROBLEM
Yves Boquet
ABSTRACT
The urban density of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is one the highest of the world and
the rate of motorization far exceeds the street capacity to handle traffic. The setting of the city
between Manila Bay to the West and Laguna de Bay to the South limits the opportunities to
spread traffic from the south on many axes of circulation. Built in the 1940’s, the circumferential
highway EDSA, named after historian Epifanio de los Santos, seems permanently clogged by
traffic, even if the newer C-5 beltway tries to provide some relief. Among the causes of EDSA
perennial difficulties, one of the major factors is the concentration of major shopping malls and
business districts alongside its course. A second major problem is the high number of bus
terminals, particularly in the Cubao area, which provide interregional service from the capital
area but add to the volume of traffic. While authorities have banned jeepneys and trisikel from
using most of EDSA, this has meant that there is a concentration of these vehicles on side streets,
blocking the smooth exit of cars. The current paper explores some of the policy options which
may be considered to tackle congestion on EDSA.

A New Perspective on Twitter Hashtag Use: Diffusion of Innovation Theory
Hsia-Ching Chang
Abstract
Twitter is a fast growing real-time social media tool. As Twitter evolves, more and more people
are partaking in sharing what is happening around the world through various Twitter
applications. Hashtag use has become a unique tagging convention to help associate Twitter
messages with certain events or contexts. Prefixed by a # symbol with a keyword, a Twitter
hashtag serves as a bottom-up user-proposed tagging convention. It also embodies user
participation in the process of hashtag innovation, especially as it pertains to information
organization tasks. Diffusion of innovation (DoI) is a theory that helps to explain the adoption
process of an innovation by modeling its entire life cycle according to the aspects of
communications and human information interactions. Hence, diffusion theory offers valuable
insights into interface design that supports Twitter hashtag use and access. It also assists in
evaluating hashtag life cycles and thus offering information required for decision-making, in
regard to hashtag management.
