SPECIFICATION FOR 11 kV DRY-TYPE CKE.LS.01.17 .(00).2011
--
DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMERS
(L-S17)
Revision: 0
SECTION: TRANSFORMER DESIGN AND
3.0 CONSTRUCTION Date: Februari 2012
Page: 53 • 1 of 5
The framework, clamping arrangement and general structure of the core of each
transformer shall be of a robust construction and shall be able to withstand the degree of
shocks which may occur during transport, installation movement and service under
normal conditions. Any unusual conditions shall be indicated in the data sheet of both
the enquiry and purchase order.
The assembled core shall result in a rigid structure, with the clamping pressure of the
press beams evenly distributed and adjusted to minimize the noise and vibration coming
from the transformer when placed into operation.
The magnetic circuit shall be built using high quality, low loss, non-aging cold rolled,
grain oriented silicone steel laminations, having excellent magnetic properties and
specially designed for core use. The core laminations shall be insulated from each other
with a material having high-interlamination insulation resistance and also capable of
withstanding pressure, mechanical vibration, thermal changes and temperatures which
may occur under the most severe operating conditions.
The joints between limbs and yoke, in the laminated magnetic circuit shall be interleaved
and mitred to adapt the flux pattern to the preferred magnetic direction.
The core clamping frame shall be equipped with lifting lugs strong enough to enable the
finished transformer to be safely lifted, complete with all accessories in place.
The flux density in the magnetic circuit, based on the minimum cross-section of the steel
in the core, shall not exceed 1.65 Tesla at rated frequency and rated no-load voltage.
All insulation materials used either individually or in combination with others shall be
suitable for use with transformers, with an insulation system temperature of minimum
155 °c (Class F). The HV and LV windings shall be reinforced with glass fibre or quartz
powder.
The need to reinforce the resin materials with glass fibre or quartz powder is essential to
prevent the resin from cracking under the most severe temperature variations, over the
total life-time of the transformer.
The class of winding insulation shall be minimum 155 °c (Class F) to !EC 60085.
Revision: 0
SECTION: ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENT AND
2.0 PERFORMANCE Date: Februari 2012
Pace: 52 - 4 of 4
When the transformers are loaded at their rated current and under steady load
conditions, the temperature rise of each winding shall not exceed 100 K when tested in
accordance with MS 60076-11 OR IEC 60076-11.
The amount of cooling air required for safe operation at full load and under worst
temperature conditions shall be clearly stated in the tender.
Revision: 0
SECTION: ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENT AND
2.0 PERFORMANCE Date: Februari 2012
Page: S2 -3 of4
The insulation levels of the transformer windings shall be those given in Table 2.
Transformers for Um up to and including 12 kV, the short circuit impedance shall be
in accordance with Table 3.

2.5 TAPPINGS
These bolted links for changing the taps shall be arranged on the same side of the
transformer as the HV terminals are positioned.
2.6 CONNECTIONS
Transformer connections shall be Dyn with clock hour figure 11. The neutral connection
shall be capable of carrying full phase rated current.

3.4 HV WINDINGS
The conductor material used for the HV winding shall be either enameled copper wire or
copper foil. The enamel coating used, which also forms the turn-to-turn insulation, shall
be suitable to be used for an insulation system with minimum thermal class F insulation.
a) wound directly onto the LV windings. The outer encapsulation and the
intermediate layer winding insulation shall consist of glass fibre or quartz
powder reinforced epoxy resin material. The completed winding block shall
be cured into an oven (in open atmosphere);
b) impregnated and cast under vacuum with epoxy resin and reinforced with
glass fibres or quartz powder.
The content of glass fibre or quartz powder shall be equal or higher than 60% and shall
be evenly distributed. This reinforcement with glass fibre is essential to ensure
mechanical strength in both axial and radial directions. Furthermore, this will ensure a
high level of short circuit withstand and avoid the possibility of any cracks caused by
mechanical stresses due to temperature variations or sudden load peaks.
3.5 LVWINDINGS
The conductor material used for the LV winding shall be copper wire or copper foil.
Copper wire shall be restricted to use in windings with a maximum rated current of 1 kA
When the LV coils are made using foil windings, the width of the foil conductor shall be
equal to the length of the final coil.
The LV foil winding shall be protected and reinforced using glass-fibre fabrics or quartz
powder.
b) made of copper wire, impregnated and cast under vacuum into moulds with
epoxy resin and reinforced with glass fibres or quartz powder; ·

c) copper foil that is impregnated with fibre sheet, and winding edges are
encapsulated with a resin under atmospheric conditions.
Cooling channels, if any, shall be arranged in a vertical manner and all coils shall have
an even and smooth surface to minimize any dust accumulation, and to give the
maximum cooling efficiency.
The HV and LV terminals shall be located on opposite sides of the upper press beams of
the transformer. The LV terminals shall be securely positioned using suitable insulators
fastened to the press beams.
The terminals shall be suitable for connection of cables coming from above or below.
The HV terminals shall be able to accept standard cables lugs.
The LV terminals shall be metal flags dimensioned to take the rated current, suitable for
connection to either busbars or standard cable Jugs.
All terminals shall be dimensioned to accept the quantity and size of cables stated in the
bill of quantities (BQs) and/or drawings.
Two (2) earthing terminals shall be provided preferably located diagonally opposite on
either side of the undercarriage. Both terminals shall be made from stainless steel and
have M10 threads.
3.9 UNDERCARRIAGE
Each transformer shall be equipped with four (4) bi-directional wheels. These wheels
shall be adjustable for either transverse or longitudinal movement and equally spaced in
both directions. The undercarriage shall be sufficiently sturdy to permit the use of
crowbars etc., place against it during movement to the transformers final location.
