A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 4

Subject: English Date: March 13, 2020


Grade and Section: Grade 4 Time

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:


a) identify and use simile in a sentence
b) read a poem with appropriate pitch, intonation and expression
c) realize that plants and animals in the forest are our treasure

II. Subject Matter:


Reading: In the Forest
Skill: Simile
Reference: English Learner’s Material pp.191-192
Material: chalk and board, PowerPoint presentation, visual aid, speaker and projector.
Values: Forest conservation and love for nature

III.Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
The teacher will begin the class by greeting the students, leading the prayer, and checking the
attendance.

B. Developing Activities
1. Unlocking of Difficulties
Unlock the meaning of the underlined words in the sentence.
1.The queen has a crown

2. Motivation
The teacher will play a music video of the song “Roar”
by Katy Perry and the class will sing.
What comes to your mind when you hear the word FOREST?

3. Motive Question:
What are our treasures in the forest?
C. Presentation
The teacher will present the lesson to the class.
Ask: “While reading the poem what will you do?”

D. Activity
Techer models in reading the poem.
The pupils will read it afterwards.
“In the Forest”
Ask: “What can you see in the forest?”
“How do trees look like?”
“How do animals run?”
“What are our treasures in the forest?”

E. Analysis
Ask: “Did you like the poem?
“Why do we consider plants and animals our treasures?”
“What would happen if there were no trees in the forest?”

“As pupils what can you do to preserve plants and animals in the forest?”
Skill Development: Simile
Teacher asks them to read first stanza of the poem.

Ask: “What is compared to tall trees?”


“What is used in comparing them?”
“What do you call to the comparison made in those lines?”
“Why do you think the author uses these comparisons to tall trees and wild animals?”

SIMILE is a figure of speech used to compare two different ideas or objects
using as or like.
For example: Bert is as tall as a mountain

Abstraction
The teacher will ask the pupils what are the lessons they learned for the day.
Let the pupils formulate a sentence using simile.
Again what is a figure of speech?
What is a simile?

G. Application
The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups and each group will be given a SIMILE Bingo
boards. They are allowed to play until one row has been filled and then until a whole card has
been filled. If they can cover a picture they do so, but everyone else should agree that it is a
suitable simile. If they cannot use the small card, they should put it back in the same place.
• The winner is the first group to cover all their pictures.

IV. Evaluation:
A. Write S if the sentence has a simile and x if it has not.
