D. The PHN participates in the conduct of research & utilizes research

findings in his/her nursing practice

PHN CAN ONLY PERFORM HIS/HER FUNCTIONS EFFECTIVELY IF HE/SHE

Has the necessary KSA in dealing with the health needs& problems of his/her dlients

Familiar with the structure & dynamics of the health care system & its broader

Sociocultural, economic & political context

Knowledgeable of laws & policies affecting the health care system in general & nursing

practice in particular & of nursing & program standards

PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES

. MANAGEMENT- Manager

1. Plans and organizes the nursing service of the health unit

Identifies problems related to dlients, resources, program implementation and service

delivery

Prepares the nursing service plan

2. Participates in the preparation of the municipal health plan

3. Participates in the implementation of the municipal health plan

4. Implements the nursing service plan

Coordinates with the different health units and related agencies and facilities

Delegates the task to the midwives, if necessary

5. Monitors and evaluates the implementation of the nursing service plan

6. Initiates changes for the improvement of services

7. Manages the RHU in the absence of the rural health physician (RHP)

TRAINING Trainer

Participates in meeting the training needs of midwives, student affliates and other trainees.
1. Priorities the identified needs of rural health midwives (RHMs) that can be addressed by

training

2. Organizes a staff development program for RHMs

3. Conducts a staff education program or coaching session.

4. Evaluates effects of training on work performance

SUPERVISION Supervisor

Supervises the RHMS:

a. Formulates a supervisory plan

b. Implements the supervisory plan

C. Monitors and evaluates midwives performance in the implementation of public health

programss

d. Maintains records and reports

.PROVISION OF HEALTH AND NURSING CARE Clinician (Health Care Provider)

Provides health and nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

a. Identifies health needs and problems of individuals, families and communities

b. Formulates individual, family and community nursing/health care plan.

C. Coordinates with individual groups and agencies for resource assistance in

implementing the health care plan.

d. Implements health care plans for individual, family and community

e. Evaluates nursing interventions and other components of care provided to individual,

family and community

HEALTH EDUCATION Health Educator

Conducts health education activities.

a. Identifies client's need for health education.

b. Conducts health education activities


C. Assesses the effects of health education activities on the capabilities of clients.

COORDINATION - Coordinator & Collaborator

a. Identifies persons, groups, organizations, other agencies and communities whose

resources are available within and outside the community and which can be tapped in

the implementation of individual, family and community health plan.

b. Refers patients to other health personnel, health facility or government agencies.
