Course Assignments and Assessments

Test 60% (Written exam at the end of each unit)
Quizzes 20% (Short quizzes at beginning of class every other day)
Boot Camp Quizzes and Projects 20% (Review material prior to each unit)

Homework Assignments
Assignments will be given for each lesson. Most are not taken up for a grade. However, I would be
happy to grade them for correctness. Quizzes related to each assignment are given every other day to
assess students learning and grant students opportunities to ask questions about the assignments.
Boot camp material is a review of past math concepts to help students tackle calculus concepts in each
unit. After Boot Camp, students will take a quiz.

Chapter Tests
A written exam is given at the end of each unit. Each test has a built-in bonus of 10%.
Students may opt to retake a test if they score less than 75%. The following procedure must be
followed:
1. Student must attend one tutoring session after school with the instructor.
2. The retest is taken on a second session after school.
3. The two sessions must be completed within 2 weeks after the first test is taken.
4. The highest possible score on the retest is 75%
5. Student may only retest once per test.

Final Exam
Final exams are cumulative for the semester, and count as 20% of the semester grade. Retest policy
does not apply to the final exam.

Assignments: Projects
All assignments must be completed following the directions given to students. Notebooks are
checked on test day of a unit. Any other assignments are also due on test day.

Course Policies
The following policies apply to anyone participating in this course.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and honorable manner. Therefore, it is
understood that students will treat one another and instructors appropriately and respectfully. It is also
understood that each student will do his/her own work. If a student violates these expectations, the
consequences will vary from losing credit on a given assignment to being dismissed from the college
program (depending on the severity of the infraction).
Late Assignments: Twenty percent is deducted from late assignments. Since zeroes are not permitted,
they are still expected to be submitted to complete the course. Since the deadlines are given well in
advance, I will not grant extensions on the deadline except in extreme cases like medical emergencies or
a death in the family.

Classroom Expectations

● Respect: Since people have different ideas of what respect looks like, I want to present
my definition. Following class rules, lab safety, and being on task are indicators of
respect, just as how students/teachers deal with one another. My main goal is to create
an environment of learning, both content and workplace skills.
● Ready: Be in class, be in class on time, and have all materials at hand, ready to work
when the class begins. The main complaint of employers is that new employees
struggle with attendance and tardies. I would be remiss if I did not hold students
accountable in this. Policies for AP and Dual Credit courses are available in the Student
Handbook.
● Refreshments: I know every teacher has their own feelings about this, but since this is a
lab class and chemicals are in the class, food and drinks are banned from class except for
special occasions (giving me time to sanitize surfaces for safety).
