In our daily interaction, we converse with people and exchange ideas in several contexts. It can
be in the school, workplace, community and even at home. Hence, it is very important to
understand the difference between fact and opinion to better evaluate what concepts are worth
holding on or not.

As the lesson unfold, may you discover its significance in your in your daily life.

Judging the relevance and truthfulness of ideas is a process of deliberating or evaluating the
soundness of information presented in a speech or article.

Remember that your evaluation must be based on fact and not on opinion. The following
pointers may help you give a logical evaluation.

1. A fact is a statement known to be true or which can be proven to be true.


2. An opinion is a statement that tells what someone believes to be true. An opinion may or
may not be correct.
3. The opinion of an authority on a subject may be believed.
4. Facts are more reliable as basis because they can be defended.

Directions: Read each item carefully and analyze whether it is a FACT or OPINION. Write F if fact

However, due to the industrialization and the advent of technology, the quality of air around the
world is compromised and is in deep danger.
